I think Gatsby . . .

If I were Daisy, I would . . .

(Again, be specific in your responses! Some of you are getting a bit short!)

I think Gatsby is very insecure with himself. I mean he was really scared to ask Nick if he would asked Daisy to tea for him. He really seems self concious of himself. It is quite obvious that Daisy and Gatsby are in love though, and the last chapter leaves off on a certain unknown point. Gatsby really changes after Nick comes back from leaving them alone, though. He becomes really happy and we see that Daisy has been crying, so this brings about some questions about him also.

If I were Daisy, I would probably, if possible, try to figure some way out of the relationship with Tom. She obviously does not love him and he does not love her, for he is having an affair with Myrtle anyway. I would then marry Gatsby and fulfill what I had origionaly planned with him, if I were Daisy. She would be much happier with Gatsby because he was her first and really only love and Gatsby would be happy with her also.

I think Gatsby is very funny to read about when he's nervous. *Sigh* poor guy. I'd agree with Mandy: he does seem really self concious. Obviously he was trying to impress Daisy to come back to him, but why did they have to go through his whole wardrobe? I'm rather curious to see how this will all work out...
Yeah, like Mandy said, Daisy totally needs to leave her idiot of a husband. Never mind that divorce is looked down upon more than an affair, she's needs to get away from Tom. It'll only make her feel worse if she stays with him. Besides, he has his misstress, Myrtle. The only person that I would be worried about with a divorce would be Daisy's baby daughter, but Gatsby would probably be kinder and more fatherly toward her than Tom ever would be, so everything would still work out for the better.

I think Gatsby is quite a nervous person. He seems sure of himself in his business ventures, although in some personal issues he has no confidence. He likes to have control of a situation, but this is impossible when he cannot keep control over himself. This seems to happen when he becomes extremely nervous, like when he sees Daisy for the first time in years. In short, Gatsby feels like a very real character, and, although he is quite confident most of the time, that can quickly change when faced with the concept of love.

If I were Daisy, I would fight my way away from Tom despite what I feel about divorce. Obviously that relationship has burnt out and, as Daisy is still young and apparently somewhat attractive, her only real option to become happy and satisfied again is to leave Tom. After that, Daisy should try to find happiness with Gatsby, who already has feelings for her.

I think Gatsby is a stalker. He bought a house next to Daisy, and he read the newspaper everyday to see if she was in it. It's cute that he likes her a lot and gets nervous around her but creepy he's been stalking her for five years and still hadn't talked to her. I find it amusing that Gatsby disappeared after Nick introduced him to Tom. Obviously he knows Daisy and him are married, which is weird because it said he was very careful around women, and he wouldn't even look at his friends wives. Gatsby seems like your typical creepy stalker, but This novel makes it seem like since he's rich it's okay.
If I were Daisy I would run away and forget the whole ordeal. Tom is obviously not a great husband so I would leave him, and Gatsby's a creepy stalker so I would want to get away from him also. Daisy doesn't really seem like the brightest of people however so I'm guessing her and Gatsby will fall in love and she'll leave Tom and move right across the Bay and then Tom will get mad at Gatsby, and everything will be terrible.

I think Gatsby has a disease. He just does not seem normal to me for some reason. He seems like one of those people who idolize someone for a long time, then is seperated from that person, but that same vision of his lover is burnt into his mind forever. I think that Gatsby is willing to do almost anything to get Daisy, which will most likely end up happening. I'm not a huge fan of Gatsby, just because he seems very decietful. I don't think he is the person everyone thinks he is, and hopefully we will find out the truth soon.

If I were Daisy I would flat leave Tom. Forget the whole figuring some way around it, she just needs to pack up and leave. Even though i, personally, do not like Gatsby, she does. Tom is a huge jerk, and he is the kind of person that I see sitting in an alley with a sign reading, "Will have an affair for beer." He is an awful person and i dislike him even more than Gatsby, for I know the truth about Tom. Daisy needs to leave the bum, maybe even burning down his house or something. I think a little torture would do the man some good.

Gatsby reminds me a lot of just men in general. He tries to act all tough and confident on the outside, but really he has just as many insecurites and self-consciousness anyone else does on the inside. But I do have to say that I like him, he seems like he is an honest person and really truly loves Daisy, even after all these years. In some ways Nick might feel that Gatsby's friendship toward him is only to get closer to Daisy, but I can tell that he can definitely trust Nick and really likes him, much like all the other people Nick has had in his life. As for Daisy, regardless of her religion, I would leave Tom and possibly pursuit Gatsby. I know that is easier said than done, but neither one of them love each other AND he is having an affair with Myrtle, so her whole idea of a religious, faithful marriage is shot down the drain anyway. She needs to be with a guy whose love for her is real and faithful, which is where Gatsby comes in!

So far it seems to me that Gatsby is a fairly nice guy. The fact that he bought that girl a new dress to avoid trouble says quite a bit about him. Like that he has god intentions and is considerate of other people. Along with the niceness, there is a definite strange side ot him. For instance he is a gentleman but he still feels that it is necessary to use his money to get people to like. I also find it strange that he has waited so long to try to find Daisy. If he liked her so much then he probably should have never left her. Furthermore, it is strange that he left Nick's house when Daisy arrives and came in the front door. Finally, I still do not quite understand why he has the parties. Is it so that Daisy would come to one and the could meet under less awkward circumstances, or is it so that he will not be so alone? All in all it seems that Gatsby is a nice guy with fairly good intentions except this thing with Daisy seems a little suspicious.

If I were Daisy I would fell very awkward being placed in a situation like this. It would be very strange to have a man trying this hard to please an already married woman, but I think that it would be imperative for Daisy to remain faithful to her husband until the divorce or the escape from the marriage is final. This is necessary so that when I leave I could take some of his money as well, hopefully. Then I think that it would be good for Daisy to go marry Gatsby the man that tries so hard to please her. This would be good because he would do anything for Daisy to make her happy. The above is what I think Daisy should do.

I think Gatsby is just like everyone else in the world and in these chapters we found that rather clearly stated. Everyone tries to act like others opinions dont effect them, like they are completely confident in themselves but we all know that isnt the truth. When Gatsby first meets Daisy at Nicks house he shows us that, just like everyone else, he is insecure about some things. Gatsby also wants Daisy to think well of him because her opinion matters to him. If I were Daisy, I would leave Tom as soon as possible. THat relationship is doing nothing for her and he isnt a very nice guy at all in my opinion. Gatsby really seems to like her and i think he would take care of her and be true to her. I think in the end she would be much happier with Gatsby like she had planned to be before Tom.

i agree with mandie, in that gatsby is kind of insecure. after five whole years of not seeing daisy, he is really nervous, but it's cute! he tries out different lightings on his house to make sure it looks majestic, has nick's lawn mowed so the entire neighborhood is profound, and dresses up nice for daisy. i think his whole purpose in buying such an extravagant house and having lavish parties was so that hopefully daisy would see and be impressed.

daisy should definitely leave tom and be with gatsby. tom can't stand her and is even cheating on her, whereas gatsby has been in love with her for the past five years and is going out of his way to impress her. besides all of that, daisy loves the rich lifestyle and would be very very happy living in such a grand house and being hostess to gatsby's parties.

I think that Gatsby is hiding something. I think he is very insecure with who he is, therefore he is trying to be someone else. I also think that he is (obviously) still in love with Daisy. I think he is the type that will sacrifice his true personality in order to impress a woman. I could be wrong though.

If I were Daisy, I would be very confused. She obviously has more feelings for Gatsby than she does for Tom. And also, Tom has more feelings for Myrtle than he does for Daisy, so whats the use? However, divorce was a huge issue back in the day... so i guess if I were Daisy, I would talk to Tom, and tell him my true feelings, and hopefully he would admit to his affair also.

I think Gatsby is unsatisfied with his life. He's traveled the world, he went to Oxford, he's been in a war, he's rich, but he doesn't seem to be happy. The only reason why he is unhappy is that he doesn't have any true friends, they all want something from him. I think that he is pursuing daisy because she's from his past, before he got insanely rich. Like mandie said, he's so self conscious because if he screws this up he may never achieve what he's longed for for so long. He wants a friend to confide in, and that's where Nick comes in. He wants a "wingman", someone that doesn't care if he's rich, someone to back him up, and he doesn't seem to care who it is, as long as they fill the part. (I agree that Gatsby is a stalker and is creepy.)

If I were Daisy, I would be taken aback. After all these years, (he even counted them) he still remembers Daisy, and is still pursuing her. He seems to have amassed this huge amount of wealth to show off just to her. All of this is insane. If I were her, I would be really confused and really impressed. I don't know why, but I agree with mandie and the others that if she wants to, break up with Tom and go for Gatsby.

I think Gatsby is....crazy-ish. I think that he has moments where in which he has no idea whatsoever what he is doing. Yet at other moments, he seems to know exactly what he is doing and is judging himself, rather harshly, with every action. I think he was very self-conscience(? on spelling) of asking Nick to have Daisy over for to just so that he could see her again and then try to impress her.
If I were Daisy, I would feel very....akward and confused. I mean all of the sudden, you have a former lover show up out of the blow and find out that he looks out at your house, and you just so happen to "meet" at a house right next to his GIANT mansion, and then they just so happen to go on a tour. To me i would almost feel as if this guy is slightly creepy. I mean if you haven't seen someone in 5 years, when you broke up with that person, and then you just so happen to be placed in the same room with that person. I think i would proably have a "oh yea, i really have to go i have this...thing i've got to go to." yea. i just think that it would be just a little bit akward if all of the sudden i found out that one of my ex's, has a house right across the bay from mine, and just so happens to know that my house is exactly across the bay, and knows exactly that a green latern is hung out there every night at the end of the dock. Can you say CREEP!
Although i'm afraid that i must go against my tradation of hating all english stories, i must say i am actually quite thrilled with this one and i am actually thinking that this might just be one of the better books i have ever read. I would'nt call it number one, but i must say it is such a great book i might just try to find another of his books so as to read more.

I think that Gatsby feels he must impress people to get what he wants from them, and that he can get anything he wants if he has enough money and luxury. I also agree that he seems insecure because he gets nervous a lot. Also, a lot of the stuff he tells Nick about his accomplishments and all the things that he's done obviously sounds made up. I think his insecurity and self-consciousness makes him feels as though he must be better than everyone else or they won't like or respect him.

I think Daisy would be happier with Gatsby than she is with Tom because Gatsby truly seems to care about her, despite his phoniness. I agree that Daisy should try to get out of her relationship with Tom, but I doubt Tom would be very happy about that.
I don't think he would like the idea of losing his wife to some West Egg guy.

I think Gatsby is odd and mabe lies often. It is odd the he cannot ask Daisy for tea himself, and wants Nick there. I understand that he would be nervous but you think if he really loved Daisy then he would want time alone. I do not doubt his love for her, however I think he is an odd character. I also think that it is weird that Gatsby watches her and bought a house right next door. I think he has a bit of an odd obession with Daisy.

If I were Daisy I would keep a close eye on Gatsby. I wold also be kind of freaked out that he claims to be in love with me and watches me. I don't think I would react very well to someone if they told me they watched me by the dock and dreamed of a life together, especially if I never talked to the person. Daisy just needs to be careful, but I guess if she loves him, she should follow her heart.

I know this one is late too. I just dont remember to do it... sorry... I think Gastby worried a little too much. He gets all worked up about the meeting between him and Daisy. I mean dont get me wrong, Id probably be a little nervous at the meeting of my lover from 5 years ago too, but I dont know. I just seems kind weird...

If I were Daisy I might be a little freaked out by his whole like stalker feel. It is kinda werid. I mean Gatsby seems to be a decent guy be the whole watching her thing kinda creeps me out. I think she is a smart girl and will make the right decision in the end.
