Gatsby's past tells me that he is not a rich snob. Well, we already knew that, but from the way Gatsby told his past, you would think he grew up rich and settled down rich. That is not the case, and the mere fact that it isn't heightens my respect for Gatsby's character. His past tells me that he had to work for everything he has, although he certainly had a good time doing so.
After the party, I think Tom and Gatsby's 'relationship' became worse. Gatsby seemingly tried hard to annoy Tom while also spending even more energy trying to keep Daisy amused. Gatsby, to me, seems rather contrived when it comes to relationships, wanting to set everything up perfectly so a date will go smooth. He was doing this again at the party, and I think Tom caught on a bit. He was obviously not amused by Gatsby, although I don't think he has any room to complain if he ever discovers his and Daisy's love.
Okay so guess what guys. the computer decided to work today. this is good because now i can submit my entry this way instead of printing it out anther pluss the computer dosent make me be gramatically correct when i type on this deal. okay so Gatsby's past pretty much tells us that he lies a lot. we are not sure why he lies but i think it is safe to assume that he feels that he needs to live up to the expectations that everyone else has of him. i think he is a strong enough person that if people didnt think he was something else that he would embrace his past. i also feel that he is probably a very hard worker. i assume this because we see that he is now rich and he had to work pretty hard to get there even if he did it in an illegitamate matter. i like gatsby because he is a good guy. we see this when he helps out the man on the boat and all through his other expiriences in life. after the party i think that tom and Gatsby will get to know eachother well. it seemed rather uptight and too worrisome. i dont know what to think because i feel that its Nick Gatsby and Daisy against tom so it shouldnt be too eventful i want to assume that Gatsby will simply walk away with Daisy and the two will be happy forever together. who knows. and also i would like to set forth a plan for the whole class to boycott the research papers with me. i believe they are just an excuse for teachers to make students cry so just dont do it and maybe we will show her our power when we rise up together remember GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!! (i am not sure how that applies but its really powerful) ( also remember my i have a dream speech it applies to the papers too) okay i am having waaay too much fun typing you all have a nice night not working on your papers
Gatsby's past tells me that he really had a relationship with Daisy and was devoted to her. I mean we knew that, but it is shown by his story of their "first kiss". Also, I agree with Ben, because yes, this also shows us that he really was not just a rich snob. He got honors in war and such because he worked at it. He really wasn't just given his wealth fully.
After the party, I think that Tom is somewhat jealous of what Gatsby has. It is obvious that Tom does not trust Gatsby. Tom gets very annoyed, seemingly the first time, with the fact this his wife is gone often. I think he may suspect something with Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby, at the end of the party, states how much he cares for Daisy, yet, again. He pretty much pours out his heart to Nick, who again just listens nicely and trys to give advice when neccesary. Gatsby states how he can bring back the past and he says that he will.
When I found out that Gatsby made up a lot about his past, it made me think a LOT less of him. I know that's pretty obvious, because he lied and nobody likes being lied to. Regardless, I feel that Gatsby's intentions are always good, and it is apparent that he cares a LOT about what people think of him. I wish that he would gain self-confidence in who he truly is, look past his materialistic lifestyle, and become the man that Daisy fell for 5 years ago. It is good that his background shows that he knows how to work for something, but the fact that it ashames him only lessens him as a person.
I was shocked to find out that Tom was at Gatsby's party, much like Nick was. Gatsy obviously tries to please everyone he meets, including Tom. However, like Ben said, he seems to have done everything in his power to bug the heck outta Tom when it came to entertaining Daisy. Gatsby only wants everything to be perfect for Daisy, and Tom isn't a complete idiot and he probably sees that. I don't feel bad for Tom at all though, because of his affairs throughout their marriage. What goes around comes around!
Gatsby's past tells me that he has had a bit of a tough life. For instance he was born into a not very prominent family that he refused to accept. This would be very difficult for a young man to change his name and live without help for several years. I think that his past was difficult because he had a very good friend that was almost like a father to him I think. It is obvious that he had difficulties with this death because he wished he would die in the war. Finally, I think that getting shorted several million dollars would make life a little harder than it needs to be. But, all these challenges I think made Gatsby into a better and more persistent person.
I think that the party was kind of unimpressive to Daisy. She was not pleased to be hanging out with the new money people, and she did not have a good time other than when she was with Gatsby. Also during the party I observed that Tom worried quite a bit about Gatsby and the fact that he is a very impressive individual. Tom often tries to make it seem like Gatsby is not really as great as he is. This shows that he still wants Daisy to bee around him or at least not run away with another man.
Gatsby's past tells me....that he is not all that he claims to be. I think that he has laid about MANY of the things he claims to have done or claims not to have done. I think that you do find out that he really was'nt always a rich snob, and like Ben said, I think that it does heighten my respect for him. He has worked in the past and his built himself up to what he is today. I think that his past also tells us that he is a bit on the stalker side of things and he is just a wee bet CRAZY FOR DAISY. He is one man who is SERIOUSLY in love with that girl. i don't know exactly what he see's in her that has made him fall so hard that he is obsessed to the point of reading newspapers from another town just to try and learn a lil' bit of information on her. After the party...I think that you can kinda begin to see a bit of a train wreck coming up, not just a single train, i mean like two bullet trains coming togther head-on at full speed. I think you will see people get hurt when these two collide. I think that Daisy will be the one who is hurt the worst because she proffess to love Gatsby, but at the same time she has been married to another man for the last 3-5 years. To me i think that Nick might also be a casualty. I mean he is one of Tom's friends and now is one of Gatsby's friends, i'm afraid that he must choose. p.s. i am groing to liek this book more and more
Gatsby's past tells me that he isnt as perfect as he was made out to be. I dont like the fact that he lied about his past but i am glad that he told about it. He hasnt had as easy of a life as everyone thought he had. He has obviously gone through many rough times but there has always seemed to be one goal with him and that is to get Daisy. From what i can tell he really seems to like her a lot for who she is. I think they could be really happy together.
after the party, i think Tom was jealous. He didnt like Daisy being around Gatsby And you could tell that the thought of her leaving him made him nervous. im glad it makes him nervous. He deserves it. He has never been a husband to Daisy and he doesnt deserve her. I think that Daisy and Gatsby could be really happy together.
Gatsby's past tells me that he wasn't just handed his money, he earned it. He refused to accept the life he was going to have and instead did something about it. I think that's one of the reasons he's not just some stupid drunk who cheats on his wife. He was never apart of that growing up; he avoided ever being connected in such a way. At the same time though, I wonder how much of it is real. He seems to lie about a lot of things, I think it'd be stupid to take this all as total truth.
After the party, I think Tom and Gatsby are gonna go for it some time. A duel to the death sort of thing. I felt sorry for Daisy. Gatsby is trying so hard to force her to be impressed and go back to him. You can't force such a thing as love. Even still, she left him a long time ago. Who's to say (as much as I wish it) she'd just leave Tom and be swept away by Gatsby. That's in the past for her. You can't force it.
Gatsby's past tells me that things have not come easy for him. Although he has recieved many breaks in life, things have been tough for the most part. Being born into a crappy family that he could not accept as his own, life started on the wrong foot. People have taken him under their wings his whole life though, and i believe he is rather ungrateful. He does get conned out of his inheritance money, but i'm not sure he really deserved that money anyway. I simply do not like Gatsby and believe that he is lucky to be rich and handles it the wrong way. He needs to be helping people less fortunate than him, not throwing gigantic parties just so he can get back his lost love.
After the party, i think that the whole situation became even worse. Daisy didn't enjoy herself and many others experienced the same feeling. Gatsby has a reputation to uphold, and he doesn't need people gossiping about him even more. Anyway, Gatsby freaks out, again, when he and Nick talk about Daisy. Gatsby simply does not realize that his love is not the same anymore. He thinks time has just frozen and that he can pick up where he left off before leaving for the war. He does not understand the concept that people change and so do their feelings. Daisy does not love Gatsby in the way that she used to, and i'm thinking it is going to be detrimental to Gatsby's health. Maybe we will have a little Hester Prynne/Arthur Dimmesdale situation here.
Gatsby's past tells us that he certainly didn't inherit his wealth. It also tells us that he came to love luxury and wealth while working on a yacht. Nick tells us that when Gatsby was prevented from recieving his money from Mr. Cody, he becomes determined to be a weaalthy and prosperous man. This means that he had to earn his money, one way or another.
I agree that after the party, Tom and Gatsby are getting along even worse than before. Obviously Tom is suspicious. and doesn't trust Gatsby. Also, Gatsby thinks that he can get anything he wants with since he is rich now. He says he can and will make things the way they were before with Daisy.
Gatsby's past tells us that he had a rough life. He had to wok for his money, and he learned a lot in the process. Is his name really James Gastz though or did Tom just say that? I think from his past we can tell that he has good intentions, and is a nice guy, but he still is a creepy stocker. One last thing is he earned medals in the war. It shows he's patiotic and willing to take risks for his country. The fact that he wanted to die though kind of kills this. Would he still have been so brave if he valued his life? Right now Gatsby sounds emo. He's sad about girls all day, he's akward and shy when he finnaly meets Daisy (most likely out of lack of self-confidence) and he wanted to die in war. So overall Gatsby's a emo stolker dude. After the party I think Tom and Daisy are going to get in a fight, and she's going to leave him for Gatsby. The only time she was happy at the party was the half hour she was alone with Gatsby. Tom on the other hand was going and talking to other girls. He made it so obvious that Daisy offered him a pencil so he could get their adresses. Basically what comes around goes around, so if Daisy cheats on Tom it's because he had it coming.
Ok...hopefully this will go through and finally end up on the darn screen! So, after learning about Gatsby's true past I think that he may be ashamed of himself. He has no reason to be, but he is always making up stories about his life, as though he is trying to impress everyone even more. Also, it makes him look humble. He knows what it is like to work hard for success, unlike all his neighbors with their "old money".
After the party, I think Tom is definatly suspecting that there is something between Gatsby and Daisy. He seems to be jealous of Gatsbys insane amount of wealth. Gatz, the old sport, is trying hard to annoy the heck out of Tom. I believe his efforts are not going wasted. Tom is jealous that Daisy is spending so much time with Gatsby.
Gatsby seems to be a really good liar. I mean, it would be hard for me to make up a totally different past and act like someone i wasn't raised to be. To me it seems like he cannot be the trusted type. He also seems like the "creepy-in-love" type, towards Daisy. He is a stalker, to me anyways. I do kind of have more respect for him, because he earned his money, rather than inherited it. However, old money is favored over new money.
After the party, i think Tom has an idea of what is going on between Daisy and Gatsby. Also, I think that Tom is somewhat jealous of Gatsby. Daisy is always gone, and i think he knows where she is headed (Gatsby's). In my opinion, i dont think Tom should get that mad, because he is doing the same exact thing to Daisy with Myrtle, even though Myrtle is poor and Gatsby is rich. I think there will be a huge conflict between Gatsby and Tom in the future.
Oh my goodness. I keep forgetting about the blogs... RRR. Gatsby's past tells me that there is a lot more to him than he puts out. He started off lower class and had to work his way up. I think that is more admirable than just having money but apperiently that wasnt as cool. Oh well. I think more of Gatbsy because I know he had to work to get to where he was...
After the party there is a lot of tention (I cant spell so I dont know if that is right) between Tom and Gatsby. Tom sees all of Gatsby's nice stuff and envys it even though he has nice stuff too. It is a little wierd though that Gatsby says he is going to bring back the past or whatever. That would kind of creep me out a bit. It seems like, well, just weird.
Gatsby's past tells me that Gatsby is very self concious about it. He wants to impress people, and his past would prevent him from doing that. He must really want people to like him because he goes through a lot of trouble. It also tells me that it would not be wise of him to judge other people because he does not come from anything special.
After the party Tom is jealous and you can tell that he has realized that something his going on. Gatsby and Daisy do not to a very good job of hiding their relationship. I think that things are going to get very interesting really fast.
