Marnee’ Royer Honors English III Mrs. Svoboda 18 February, 2008 Unit 1 Project This project relates to the unit about breaking new ground because many students just ignore custodians without looking at all the work that they actually do. Not many people don’t really try to get to know people out of their little bubble of their social lives so it was really interesting to talk Arnie since I normally wouldn‘t have. When I interviewed Arnie, it broke the stereotype of custodian/ student relationships.. Arnie was very willing to be interviewed and he said he enjoys his work a lot. During this project I learned many things. The first thing was that custodians are actually people just like everyone else with pasts and families that care for them. This sounds like a ridiculous thing to say but when you see just a person working at a fast food restaurant, you don’t normally wonder about their life you just are happy they are doing their job and that you get your food. Something else I learned was that sometimes being a custodian is a person’s actual choice of job. Arnie said that he actually did enjoy cleaning because of the repetition of his work and he enjoyed being around young people.

Unit 1 Project
