I was suprised when Janie left Logan so easily and without hardly thinking for a guy she hardly knows. She even married Jodie the same day she left Logan. Janie strikes me as the type of person who is very unstable(in relationships) and is never fully satisfied. I was also suprised at how straight forward Jodie was. First he steals a guy's wife, then he buys two hundred acres of land, ow, I just bit my tongue and it hurts really bad, then he practically builds an entire town from scratch, and to top it all, he becomes Mayor. This seems like the type of guy who knows what he wants and will do anything it takes to get it. He also seems like an arrogant *!#&%... But really I was suprised when Janie started to dislike being treated like a lady after she had been whining about not being treated like one her whole life. Get it straight woman! But I admit, this book has gotten a little bit better...by about half a percent...if that.
I was surprised that Janie left Logan. I know that she was not very happy in the marriage but I thought that it would last a little longer than it did. I thought that she would try harder to make the marriage work at least for her grandmother considering she was dead, guess I was wrong. Although I understand why she decided to leave Logan I do not necessarily agree with the way she did or the fact that she really did not take in to consideration how it might effect him I think it was a selfish act on her part. I was also surprised that Janie did not like being treated like a mayor’s wife I thought she would really enjoy a life full of privilege considering she came from a life that had quite a few of them.
...Janie just up and left her first husband, Mr. Killicks. I was also very surprised that a small community would let a complete stranger walk in a start telling them what to do. I know that Joe Starks is just trying to create an all colored town that function properly, but he should be a little more caring of what the others think. I was surprised that one person could make such a big difference to so many people in a short amount of time, like Joe did in Eatonville. I also think that the novel is a lot more interesting now that we know that Janie is starting to get tired of her new life.
Dear jdub, I'm sorry you bit your tounge. Kthanksbye.
I was surprised, just as jdub was, that Janie was so easily tempted and gave into the temptation. But when you think about it, she never really wanted to marry Logan and Joe was just like her "dream" man. In a way it is easy to see how she would be so tempted. She is really young and although that isn't a good reason it should be taken into consideration when you start to judge her. As with most women Janie changes her mind constantly. (Yes, I admit that we are hard to understand.) I think as she is growing more comfertable with herself and with life in general she is finding out that life isn't what she thought it was and marriage still can be a trying experiance. Janie just seems like she is a confused teenager like the rest of us and is trying to grow up and be who she is meant to be.
Yea I agree with James. I kind of defended her today in class for how she wanted more out of marriage and love but now I kind of regret it. If she really wants love she has to try for it too and not just run off with the next proposal that comes along. Girls are hard to predict and it definitely shows in this novel.
Okay James we understand that you’re better than everyone else so you can stop writing on the blog first.
I wasn’t terribly flabbergasted (how about that word choice) that Janie left Logan. Neither one presented undying love for the other. I think Janie went through with the marriage just to make Nanny happy. However, I was astonished that she left with the first guy she saw. I was also surprised by Joe’s rapid authority over Eatonville. He just strolls on into town and takes over. What really dumbfounded me was Janie’s bipolarness (is that a word). I can understand that she is young and indecisive, but seriously, make up your mind. Nevertheless, I will have to admit that the story has become a little more interesting.
i was very suprised when janie left logan. she does not know what love is. she is there for lust. she is evil. jodie is crazy too. he gets what he wants. i think these two will cause lots of problems as the story goes on. janie uses things to her benefit. at first she says she has never been treated like a woman her whole life and then she says she does not like being treated as the mayor's wife. she needs to know what she wants in life. i am not trying to be nice, but i really dont think most girls are like janie. janie is a horror without the 'or' at the end and spelled a little different. i was also very suprised that i actually am getting into the book. i think that by the end of the book i will be shook. shook because i will learn something.
I was surprised when Janie left with the first man she saw. I kinda figured she would get out of her marriage with Logan somehow, but not the way she did. It was one thing to leave with the first man she saw but the fact that she married Jody in the same day blows my mind. I was also suprised when Jody just kinda waltz into town and got everything he wanted. I think Janie needs to make up her mind about whether shes wants to be treated like a lady or not, because it is somewhat irritating me that she keeps changing her mind. Oh, and the fact that she was so out spoken with Logan and now she doesn't say anything to Jody. It just bugs me. I still think Janie is spoiled, but despite that fact I am starting to like the book better.
Like everyone else has been saying.. I too was surprised that Janie left Logan. Most people would usually take some more time in thinking over that decision rather than just "getting up" and leaving him for someone she barely knows. I think by her making that decision it shows a little more about her character and who she really is.. a confused girl who wants love in marriage..not just safety and protection.
I was surprised that Janie was so easily convinced that Joe was better for her than Logan. I realize she never really loved him and for the most part she felt forced into marrying him, but he did care for her. He did keep her safe. I believe in love as much as the next person, but it's not possible to jsut up and leave your husband for a man you've known for so short a time. That's a really big risk, to just leave the comfort of a safe home, where someone there is caring for you. I agree with Nay though, I really do think she is just a stupid teenager. She thinks she is really making the right decision.
I agree with everyone here in that I was really surprised when Janie left Logan. It seemed like Jodie was the first man she met and she used him as a way to get away from Logan. She wasn't happy married to Logan and said she didn't love him, but she willingly married a man she'd known for a very short time? This confused me. Janie couldn't possibly have fallen in love with Jodie that fast, and even if she did you'd think Janie would have some sense not to marry him so soon. Even if they had "love at first sight," (which I don't believe, but whatever) you can't expect a marriage to work if you don't get to know each other first. I think Janie uses Joe as an excuse to leave Logan and then marries him simply because she wouldn't really be able to provide for herself without a husband. While 'love at first site' might exist, I really doubt 'marriage at first site' is a good idea. I really doubt Janie & Joe's marriage will last.
Ok maybe Janie just missed the part of wedding vows that states "till death do us part." because she obviously didn't take it to heart. I mean seriously, jody may have been tempting but its like stepping out of the comfort and safety of her routine and comfortable lifestyle into the wild unkown. And yes she mentioned it to her husband but would you take it seriously if your spouse asked if they could just leave? Good gracious people are just crazy!
Um so yea... the only thing that has surprised me so far is that i am actually enjoying this book. I believe that Janie was too immature for marriage anyway. It did not really surprise me when she left logan. It did surprise me that she went for someone she has no idea about. I guess that he is charming and for someone so young that may be all they want. Janie does not get love and wants to be spoiled, so i guess he is what she is looking for. SPAZZ

I don't really think that Janie is "evil", Areeb. I think if anything she is confused or spoiled.
way to be imaginitive with the names guys!!!
