If I could talk to Janie, I would tell her to stop and think about what she is going to do before she does it. For example, she should have thought about getting married to Joe a little harder before she ran off with him. Also, I would tell her that she does not need a man in her life to be happy. Janie is a forty year old woman, so she can take care of herself and make her own decisions, she does not need a man for that.
Janie: You are married to a guy who is much younger than you and who truly loves you as a person. You are not treated like property and you have lots of money. In other words, you have POWER! Do not let Vergible put a single toe out of line. Be carefull of who he hangs out with so he does not get into trouble. Also, if Tea Cake wants to be the provider, let him. Save your money, do not spend it in case of an emergency. Finally, keep a gun close at hand. you are in a wild place full of wild people. BEWARE!!! Oh yeah, be happy and all that stuff too.
If I could talk to Janie I would tell her that she should be wiser in her decisions. She should take the time to think through what she is about to do and not make rash, not thought out decisions. She should have taking more time in her decision to marry Joe; if she had, then maybe her life would have turned out differently. On the other hand now that she has found someone that truly loves her for the person that she is and doesn’t see her just as someone to do his bidding don’t ruined it for yourself. Don’t spend your time worrying and doubting your marriage, now that’s not say don’t pay attention to who your husband is hanging around with but have faith in the fact that he loves you and will be faithful to you. Its ok to have some insecurities about your marriage because it is so different from those that you have experienced before but don’t let those insecurities over shadow all the wonderful things that you have now with Tea Cake and most of all enjoy your life and be happy with what you have been given.
If I could talk to Janie, I would tell her first of all she doesn't need a man to feel confident in herself. She should be happy with who she is and not with who other people want her to be. Second, if Tea Cake starts beating her like Joe did, she shouldn't be scared to leave him because she's afraid of being lonely. If her husband doesn't realize what a wonderful wife he has when she's around, he'll realize it when she's gone. Last of all, she should live her life to the fullest potential and have faith in Tea Cake. -I am almost sad to say this, but these few chapters have almost made me like Janie. Not completely, but enough to enjoy this book more.
I'm going to step out of the box here and give some advice to Tea Cake. Well first of all, seriously, the name is pretty lame, but on to the important things. Janie trusts and loves you so don't mess this up! She's dealt with enough crap. Now true she did pretty much dig herself into the deep hole, but still she deserves a second, ok in this case third chance. Every girl deserves the man of her dreams who will love her no matter what, so be that guy. Don't lay a harming hand on her. Remember, as mom always says, hands are for loving not hitting. Yes this rule applies to marriage. Oh and be smart about money. Save some and be wise with the rest. Just remember you've got a girl to take care of so spend it wisely. Just be smart! Iknow i really should be a relationship counselor. :)
I would talk to Nunkie. I would tell her to mind her own buisness and leave Tea Cake and Janie alone!!!! She is only causing promblems with them. Even though they made up after their struggle, I see more problems arising in the future because of Nunkie. I think she is just jelous of whe TC and Janie have and just wants to ruine it so they can not be happy, becuase she is not happy with her own life. I would tell her to go flirt with some other man that is single, very much untaken and un-married, and available!! What TC and Janie has is special and should not be broken up.
If I could talk to Janie, I would give this advice: Lay off the Tea Cake. At first your marriage sounded too good to be true. That’s because it is. You thought that you had found the perfect man. He was dashing, he was the definition of man, and he swept you off your feet. But there are skeletons in his closet. He’s chronic gambler, he leaves for long periods of time, and he’s a colossal flirt. You think that you can satisfy him, but you can’t. He is in the prime of his life and you’re over the hill. He doesn’t care about your feelings; he’s just with you for your money. My advice is to ditch him while you still can and maybe buy some cats or something to keep you company. No, no, buy a puppy. Yeah puppies are really cute.
I would tell her to be patient and trust Tea Cake. Even though he is young, he truly cares for her as a person and not as a trophy. His youthful ambition, unlike Jody's, is fueled by his love for Janie and this should give her a sense of assurance that he is in it for the long haul. This is definitely a new experience for Janie so she should be scared but that uncertainty of what will happen will only bring her closer to Tea Cake.
if i could talk to janie i would tell her to stay away from tea cake. tea cake is young and janie is old. tea cake will cheat on you, you almost saw this with him and nunkie. although you two had a good night and joked about how stupid she was this will not last forever. dont trust tea cake. coffee cake is better. he also is getting more dominant like when he tries to tell janie not to be friends with mrs. turner or when he beats janie to show he is boss.i couldnt remember what chapter we had to read up to so i just read up to 18, maybe the teacake beating is to far into the book for this blog or maybe not. anyway, janie should get away from tea cake. you can take care of yourself janie. you are a old woman who can be strong if you want. stay strong janie. power to the people.
If i could talk to teacake i would tell him to be careful and to respect his ladyfriend's wishes. If he thinks that he should provide for the family, so be it. However, i would tell him to make sure that he does not entirely exclude her from their financial lives when she has so much to contribute not only monetarily, but with her ideas and experience. Also, i would tell him that the more freedom he gives her, the happier she will be.
If I could talk to Janie, I would tell her to not worry about it. Yes, this young girl is hitting on your husband, but he is your HUSBAND. If he really loves you like he says he does you shouldn't have to worry about it. He has told you more than once that he wouldn't leave you and if you keep "checking up" on him instead of trusting him, he is going to get fed up with you. So just be happy with what you have because your marriage with Tea Cake is way better than your 2 previous ones.
If I could talk to Janie, I would tell her two things: think about your decisions before you make them and trust the decisions once they are made. I think if Janie had taken the time to stop and think before rushing into her first two marriages, especially with Joe, she would've saved herself a lot of heartache. She married Joe the same day she left Logan, and we all know how that turned out. I'm not saying she shouldn't have left Logan, but Janie should have given her relationship with Jody some time. Next, Janie needs to be more trusting. If I were her, I'd be a little nervous about Tea Cake too, but only for a little bit. How many times does Janie think TC left? After the first one or two instances that TC returned, I'd realize that he's there for me and isn't going anywhere. I might have to eat my words later, but it's possible that not every guy just wants Janie's money. It's possible not all guys are scum (though most are =P)

Maybe he should start a "Dear Annie" column...
