...I hate this book. No, Mrs. Svoboda, I HATE this book. The whole incredible dog-shanking scene was cancelled out by the fact that Janie was forced to kill Tea Cake. But seriously though, if Janie was such a great shot, I wondered why she did not just shoot his gun hand or some other less fatal body area. I hate this book. Also, I was left wondering what Janie was going to do with her life at the end of the last chapter. I think she should keep searching for a permanate husband. I hate this book. I think by this time she would have enough experience to find a lasting man. I was also left wondering why she does not have any children. I hate this book. I mean, come on, she was married to three guys for a considerable amount of time each and she is over forty with no kids? What up with that. And oh yeah, I HATE this book. Just thought I'd make that clear, Mrs. Svoboda...(Silently sobbing, silently sobbing)...Why Tea Cake, WHY!?
…what ever happened to Logan? Did he ever try to find Janie or did he expect that she would leave him from the beginning. I wonder why Janie went back to Eatonville after she shot Tea Cake. I thought that she would stay in Florida because that is where Tea Cake died. I know that if she stayed in Florida she would never be able to forget Tea Cake, but I doubt that she would be able to forget him either way. I also wonder why she never had kids. I wonder why Marnee does not like Tea Cake; I think that Janie and Tea Cake were the perfect couple, regardless of their age difference. I liked the book.
I wonder if Janie found what she was looking for after all. She had gone through two relationships with poopy people and one with The Man, Tea Cake, only to end up shooting him. I know the love she was hoping to find was embodied in Tea Cake, but I can not really tell how she resolves it in the end. I could see it being that she goes on a widow and lives to remember her times with Tea Cake but I could also see her continuing on to find yet anpother husband. Maybe it is just another allegory to complex infostructure of the female mind. It is unpredictable...
I wondered what Janie had planned for the rest of her life. Was she satisfied with living her life like the way it was? Did she feel like she had found the things in life that she wanted and that she could live in peace with herself? I guess I got the impression that she did find the things in life that she wanted, she wanted love and she found Tea Cake she wanted independence and she found that after Jody’s death she wanted out of her marriage to Logan and she found that by marrying Jody. So I guess even though it is really sad that she finally found the love that she wanted and it was so quickly taken from her, I felt that she gain something as well, she gained herself. So I guess I wonder if Janie felt like even though her life was filled with many ups and downs and it certainly wasn’t what she might have dreamed about in the beginning did her life turn into a new dream after she met Tea Cake and after his death she find herself dreaming of something new for her life.
I wondered what happened to Janie. I mean, does she go searching for another husband(which I can see her doing, because I think she has commitment issues) or does she just waste away because she has nothing left after TC died or does she go on finally becoming a strong and independent woman and live her life happily in memory of TC? O, and how come Janie didn't take TC to the hospital right away? I mean, ya, TC would have been mad, but I'm pretty sure he would have gotten over it. If he doesnt like hospitals, why didnt he go with the one doctor he trusted? And even if he didnt go to the hospital, that one doctor could have tied him to the bed. I'm pretty sure the doctor would have figured out how to tie a knot. Who dies of rabies?-the fact that he got shot is a minor detail. Rabies? I'm sorry, but I found that funny. I kind of like this book, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to read it again.
I still wonder what janie has planned to do with her life now that she is a "free" woman. Not that her being alone is what she wanted, it's just she is alone and sort of free to do as she pleases. so im wondering what she is going to do to keep her mind off of Tea Cake.
After finishing, I wondered if Janie developed a psychological disorder. When she found the man she loved Janie thought that her life would be great, but then she had to kill him. Personally that would cause me to develop serious problems. After going back to Eatonville, I’m sure that everyone started nasty rumors about her. Having an entire town think negatively of me would also get to me. After being forced to kill Tea Cake I don’t doubt that she had suicidal thoughts. Having to live without the one you love would be very difficult. I agree with James that this book was a complete waste of time and a disgrace to American literature so maybe Janie’s death would actually make the book better. She wasn’t really that likable. Overall the book was muy bad. Don’t make the class next year read it. Let them read Harry Potter or something. -Tony
what Janie would do with her life. She seems like she really loves T.C. so it left me wondering if she would end up going and finding a new lover or if she would stay alone. It would suck to have your loved one shot especially when you are the one that has to kill him. ( I'm really glad that T.C. dies...Sorry it's just how I feel. Ha ha)
After reading this section, I still don't get why Janie didn't remove the bullets from the pistol. If she took out the three rounds and hid the rest, it wouldn't matter if Tea Cake realized that the bullets were gone. Janie says later that she is quicker than TC if he tried to use his knife on her. So basically Tea Cake might have been able to hit her, not kill her. It makes no sense for Janie to have a loaded gun around when she knows TC is going to start losing his mind. (oh by the way, good point jdub about Janie should've just shot TC in a not fatal spot) This section kinda angered me because Zora Neale Hurston could've just as easily given this story a happy ending. Mrs. Svoboda said that some of the events in the book actually happened to Zora, but I didn't want Tea Cake to die!! ='( (is still say nay's crazy, i like tea cake)...Although I don't like that TC dies (of rabies, which you have to admit, it's kinda comical) I definitely understand why it's written this way. Tea Cake's death shows us the difference in their relationship from her past husbands. Janie left Logan without ever looking back and she is actually happy when Joe dies. When TC dies, however, Janie truly grieves. At Jody's funeral, Janie masks her happiness by 'starch and ironing' her face and wearing expensive veils and robes. But at Tea Cake's funeral, she is too busy mourning to dress up. *wow this is really long* Also, the court scene made me really mad. Apparently self-defense was not well-known then. I probably would've thrown my book across the room if they had convicted Janie. And then it was so sad when Janie had to hear the men saying that she was sent free because she is pretty and only killed a black man, instead of because she shot him in self-defense......Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and a donkey that was a long post. sorry y'all. lol.
I wondered a lot of the same as probably everyone else did. I wondered whether Janie would ever find love. I wondered why Janie was so stupid to act the way she did in the first place. I wondered why Tea Cake had to get rabies. I wondered if I just spelled rabies right. I also wondered why on earth this book could be so insanely, incredibly actually a decent book. I did hate it but now its not too bad (sorry jdub).
Im with james on this one. Even though Nay told me the ending, it still came as a shock. That was a really (poopy) book. I cannot believe that janie didnt even manage to have children. She must really feel like a complete failure. I really wonder what Janie is going to do now that she has no life. I guess she can join the occult or something... No, that's a bad idea. Maybe she should try a sewing circle instead... That's a little better, but it is pretty boring. Maybe she could marry and kill off a few more people... that could be pretty difficult with her track record though. Hmm... i guess i will have to think on that a little longer.
ANYWAY, I am kind of wondering what happened to logan. He Kinda got a crap deal. He married some random chick and then she left him for a wife beater--Ouch... He probably is still single and still has dirty feet. None of this would have ever happened if he would just have washed his feet and taken a weekly shower. He and janie would still be married and living the happily ever after scene. Yea...
NATALIE SHOULD STOP WRITING ESSAYS ON THE BLOG!!!!
If Janie really would've rather died than have to live without Tea Cake. I mean that is true love, when you find someone you absolutely can't live without. Then again though she also had to be an extremely strong woman in order to realize that the only way to really save Tea Cake and herself was to kill him. Thats love. Was she satisfied though? Did she really feel that she had found love? Did her quest for love and a great guy finally come to an end or will she simply move on to find someone else? I honestly found the ending a bit humerous, because seriously rabies? Thats just kinda funny that the thing that he killed to save her, lead to his own death.
i wondered what janie does with her life. i think the author could have added a little bit more to this book to tell us that. not a lot more because i cant read this book anymore. i hope she did not find another man. i didnt like tea cake before because i couldnt trust him. i cant trust people who act too perfect and nice. i thought at some point (other than the beating) that tea cake would do something stupid. i guess i was wrong. i never wondered why janie doesnt have any kids. even though she is 40 yrs old it is very possible not to get pregnant even if she is throwing herself at three different guys. i did not like the book that much. it was not horrible though. what made it worse was that it was purple and looked pretty gay. i saw people give me wierd looks when i would carry it.
I wondered what would happen next? The ending doesn't really tie it up... Where does Janie go from there? Does she end up finding love and staying married until she dies? Does she give up and kill herself the next day? I just don't understand.
Simply tab long quotes twice on the left margin (remember they have to be four typed lines or longer before they can be a long quote!). The punctuation on long quotes goes before the citation.
Mrs. Svoboda, you said that I did not have one of the journals done, but I just looked through all of them and I do have them all in. Im not sure why I got 120/140
