This chapter made me think that . . .

...I really like Nick. I like that he lets the reader make their own opinions about the events that take place. For example, Nick states that some people think that Gatsby killed a man or that he was a German spy, but he never says what he thinks. I also think that Nick and Jordan make the novel more enjoyable. I think that Gatsby is a very interesting character I like that he is mysterious. After reading the back of the book I can not wait to see what happens between Gatsby and Daisy. I think that this novel will be very good once we get farther into it.

I think that nick's honesty and nuetrality is going to appeal to many people in this novel. At the end Jordan expressed her like for his "carefulness"... I think gatsby will grow to like him because people like nick are not common. nick even says this when he says "i am one of the only honest person i have ever known". His honesty is something that people like gatsby and jordan arent accustomed to. i have the feeling that it will eventually get him into trouble but nick's steady thinking and neutrality is a good trait that i admire.

...alcohol really is as bad as I and everyone else says it is. These married men at the party were hitting one other women right in front of their wives! And that other guy was so drunk he didn't even know that his car had lost a tire. In WWII, there was a great commanding officer by the name of Dick Winters. While this C.O. never touched alcohol in his life, his soldiers were drunk as ten skunks. This reminds me of Gatsby as he soberly watches all of his drunk guests wreaking havoc on each other. It is my conclusion that all truly great people are non-alcoholics. I hope there is a happy ending for Gatsby. Too bad they didn't enforce the 18th ammendment hard enough.

This chapter made me think that I’m really beginning to enjoy this book. I really wanted to go to the party that was being described in the book although there was a lot of questionable things going on there I felt like it would be a fun place to be for a night. I would also like to know the man they call Gatsby he seems to me like a very interesting man or maybe that’s because we don’t know much about him but either way I would like to meet him especially if it turns out anything like the way he met Nick. Although that was probably embarrassing for Nick I think it adds a bit of humor to the whole encounter. I also liked seeing Nick get involved with Jordan it showed a new part of Nick that we really haven’t seen that he really does have somewhat of an opinion. At least an opinion about who he has feelings for but I still enjoy the fact that Nick is simply there to tell the story, it gives the reader a chance to decide what they want to think instead of an opinion being pushed on them.

I think that Gatsby so far seems somewhat down to earth. I like that he actually went to war instead of paying someone to go in his place. To me, that makes him seem more honorable. I thought it was interesting that Gatsby didn't participate more at his own party. It's almost as if he likes to sit and watch the drama unfold around him as if he was watching a soap opera. I'm wondering if Nick and Jordan will hook up. I think it will be interesting to see where the relationship goes, especially since Nick knows that she lies alot. I have decided I am very glad that I wasn't around in the 20's because it seems a little to crazy for me. I like parties as much as the next person but going to parties like every other day is too much for one person. So far I'm liking this book so hopefully it continues to get better.

This chapter made me think that Gatsby is really strange. He throws a lavish party but doesn't participate in any of the festivities. He seems to me almost like a puppet master. All of the guests are his toys and he just watches as they do crazy things. I'm really curious to see more of Gatsby and learn a little something about his background. I think Gatsby is a very smart man and I admire him for that. I also hope that Nick and Jordan get involved with each other. I think that Jordan is just the person to liven up Nick's life.

...that i surprisingly really like Gatsby. Now my opinion will probably change soon, but for now i like him. I figured that because of his wealth he would be really stuck up and snobby, but i was wrong. He doesn't walk around gloating that he's rich, i mean Nick had no idea that's who he's talking to. He's friendly and inviting in asking Nick to join him in flying his plane. He just seems to go out of his way to make others happy and comfortable. The story about him buying a dress for some woman because it had torn at a party shows his wealth, but also his sense of giving. I'm impressed with him so far, which means something bad is coming.

I think that Nick is a spineless coward. I am sorry jamila but I cannot stand Nick. I understand that it is his role as narrator to stay out of things, but so far in the book this man has not given his opinion one way or another to anyone else except for the reader. He does not have the cajones to tell Tom to back off when Daisy's finger is nearly broken by him, and he does not stand up for his cousin when Tom takes him to see his mistress. The other thing that is on my mind is why is Gatsby so friendly all of a sudden toward Nick. Here there be dragons...

...I like Nick a little bit because of the way he is honest and it seems like he is pretty easy to talk to. ( I feel bad for him about that part. :S ) I don't like him because he doesn't stand up for himself when Tom tries to take him to meet his "secret" lover. I also don't like that Nick can just look the other way with Tom even having a lover other then Daisy. I think that Gatsby is smart. He knows how to get what he wants (like rich friends) without having to work hard at it. He seems to be pretty down to earth and I think as the novel goes on I may actually enjoy it... Mrs. S don't smile at that. I can admit when I am wrong...although it sucks.:)

This chapter made me think about a lot of different things. First of all, I think that Gatsby and Nick might become close friends by the end of the novel. Just the way that Gatsby actually took time and talked to Nick made me believe this. Second, I am very curious as to what is going on between Gatsby and Mrs. Baker. What could they have been talking about for an hour in the library? Third, I would like to know why Gatsby keeps getting calls from all sorts of random places around the country. What does he do to make him that important to people in so many places? I also want to know who was in the coupe. Finally, I wonder why Mrs. Baker and Nick started to hang out so much and if the person he "fantasizes" about it Mrs. Baker.

....Gatsby is a good man. He is a veteran of the war, which shows that he proudly served his country. He is not an alcoholic like seemingly everyone else in the story (with the exception of Nick). I think Gatsby will slowly begin to reveal to us many things that may slowly take some of the mystery that seems to surround him away. I also think that Nick is a very good guy. He is a very rare drinker, and even when he does, it is for social reasons and he rarely loses himself in it. He is also a very honest man. As is evident with Tom, that seems to be almost a rarity in this novel. So far, this isn't too terrible of a book.

Robin Hood: Blinkin, listen to me. They've taken the castle!
Blinkin: I thought it felt a bit drafty. Cor, this never would have happened if your father was alive.
Robin Hood: He's dead?
Blinkin: Yes.
Robin Hood: And my mother?
Blinkin: She died of pneumonia while... oh, you were away...
Robin Hood: My brothers?
Blinkin: There were all killed by the plague.
Robin Hood: My dog, Pogo?
Blinkin: Run over by a carriage.
Robin Hood: My goldfish, Goldie?
Blinkin: Eaten by the cat.
Robin Hood: [on the verge of tears] My cat?
Blinkin: Choked on the goldfish.
[pause]
Blinkin: Oh, it's good to be home, ain't it, Master Robin?

I think that it would be really fun to go to one of Gatsby's parties. Only I wouldn't really partake in much besides dancing. It would be much more fun just to sit back and watch everyone make fools of themselves. I mean, really, if you don't remember it the next day, what fun is it to see someone drive a car into a ditch, then not realize it and want to drive away even though the car is missing a wheel? It would be much more fun to sit back and just watch all the craziness rather than be one of the crazies yourself.
Also this chapter made me think that Gatsby is trying too hard to get people to like him. He throws these elaborate parties but doesn't enjoy them himself, so what's the point? I wouldn't allow my house to get destroyed if I wasn't having fun myself. Also that girl said that Gatsby sent her a new dress when she tore hers at one of the parties, that's just a little bit over the top. It seems kinda odd.

This chapter made me think that some people are just really weird, Gastby, for instance. It's not that I don't like him. It is just a bit odd that he throws these big huge extravagant parties that he has to spend a ton of money on and then he doesn't even participate in the activities. He just kinda sits back and watches everything that is going on. Sure, everyone likes to people watch, but usually they do so in a public place, not by turning their homes into a public place. I just found it a bit strange.
