By the end of Chap. 2, you have met most of the major characters in the novel. So tell me, what are your impressions of these individuals who inhabit Fitzgerald's New York? Who would you like to hang out with? Who drives you crazy?

actually i haven't read it yet, but i just thought i'd take the first post
i clicked the handicap button this time and its very mumbled numbers..and I think they're talking in chinese!..to kinda answer the ?, i'm sure i'm crazy enough to drive them crazy before they want to bother me..lol
Due to the massive confusion I had while attempting to read this, I might be a little off on my first impressions of these characters.
Nick I feel is constantly being dragged all over the place. It was this way when he was at Tom's house and when Tom decided to drag him out of the train to meet... his um... girl.. and get drunk for the 2nd time of his life. I really didn't hate anyone *yet* while reading this... Daisy and Baker in C1 mostly just plain confuzzled me. Daisy was sorta randomish and I saw a hint of arrogance, not as bad as Toms but a little. I also don't know if she was joking or not after she hurts herself from the candles and complains "I hurt myself".. then she blames tom after she just said "I". Didn't get much of Baker besides the pretty much telling Nick to "sh...ut up" as she wanted to hear something. All I got was a little bit of rudeness from her.
I think the character who bothers me the most would be Tom... for one his arrogance and thinking he's better than everyone else. Such as stating that Mr. Willson "is so dumb he doesn't know he's alive". Obviously he and Daisy are not bonded very well, such as when he told Nick don't believe anything you hear. Tom also seemed very demanding, tells others what to do a lot and is rude/talks about blabber. ("We're getting off" "I want you to meet my girl" "That dog's a boy" "It's a bit*h" "Terrible place, isn't it" )
Oh and is he paranoid that another race will dominate whites?
After he 'demands' Myrtle not to say Daisy, she says it anyway so he decides to own her in the face... wtheck.
This is pretty horrible, but I thought that was sorta funny how Nick just leaves with McKee after that.
If I had to hang out with anyone, I would be comfortable hanging out with noone so far in this story.
Ok, If I was forced to, I would probably hang out with Nick, as he is I think fairly calm... he just observed everything even though he had opposing thoughts such as the lies about Diasy etc.. I think I would be alive longer if I just hung out with him.
Daisy, I would be confuzzled and ticked after hanging with her, She gives out secrets *if it was*, is a little arrogant and I just don't want to trust her.
Tom, well if I hung out with him I would be dead.
Dangit, there were 0 posts when I started typing this and Yin got it.
Btw My stickies:

Purple: Character Events, 13
Pink: what the ef just happened, 4,096
I might have to re-read this for the 3rd time.
okay. I did everything in my power to make sure that I did not use any words that could come back to haunt me.
TOM IS A MALE ABBY x 10000000000.2. What the #()*@&$ is wrong with him? From what I understood, he has a very pretty wife who's nice, a relatively good lifestyle, and he goes and gets it on with another woman with "surplus flesh?" WHAT???? Not to mention his whole "White is the supreme race; science proves it..." business. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. He caused me great anguish. I am taking it all out on the keyboard.

There. Much better. As for Nick-he seems like an innocent enough guy, but very naive. I don't blame him... how many other people are like, "Hey, I'm bored here in the middle of the country. Let's leave and go somewhere fun!" I'd probaby enjoy being with him at some points in time, but he could get tiring very quickly.
Daisy seems like an airhead, but pretty much harmless. I feel like she has no control over the situation, and maybe if she were in a different position, might be a more likeable person. As for now, I'd probably get frustrated.
You already know what I feel about Tom.
Miss Baker is really unique. I still don't get exactly what's going on with her, but I kind of like her. I really don't know much about her character (like Adam, I had my "WHAT'S GOING ON" parts), but she seems pretty cool. Wow. That was a bunch of repeated stuff above. Oh well.
Myrtle is, um, another very special woman. It seems so strange to throw a random party, do it with the person you're cheating with, and get drunk. I'd probably hate her. But I have no idea what happened in the twenties...
The McKees are still confusing. I have no idea what to think of them except that the whole little "photographing her 127 times before they were married" was really weird. I'd feel very uncomfortable around them. But again, the twenties...
Is Cathrine an important character? I had no idea what she was there for aside from telling Nick that all people there hated their spouses.
Okay. I'm done. I definately had about 15 people ask me if I was reading The Great Gatsby as I was carrying it around. "Oh, no, I'm not. I thought I'd just carry it around for kicks and giggles..."
and what is up with the occasionaly akward word verifications? Make the school block it-It's not school apropriate!!!
We are going to be able to write a book with these blogs.
I pretty much understood everything in Chapters 1-2, and am determined not to blow up this time like in another certain story in which a certain person did certain things and ended up killing thirty or so certain innocent (if not a little deranged) ppl. Anyway, I thought it was a little funny, not haha funny, but roll-your-eyes-at-all-the-adultery-that-I've-read-about-in-English-this-year funny.
~Nick is pretty much letting everyone else control his life, but when he actually wants to do something on his own, he chickens out.
~Daisy wants everyone to adore and serve her, since her husband is...otherwise busy (pronounced bis-ay) and she is apparently very pretty, but prone to gossip, and also not exactly in control of her life.
~Tom is a male version of Abigail, but with no scruples (good word, I know) about openly discussing his affair with a women of "surplus flesh" who is neither pretty nor rich. I got a kick out of that. "Surplus flesh"? What the heck? Oh and not only is he a "studly Dudley," (that was just for you Brian)but when he finally gets his "girl" he breaks her nose because only he can talk aobut his wife and her husband, but the second she comments about Daisy KAPOW! Ha! I broke your nose.
~Myrtle is poor but acts like a very stuck up rich witch. She has no money, but expects to get all these expensive things and have her "weekend friend" pay for it all.
~Poor Mr. Wilson is completely oblivious and I see why Tom called him dumb. I feel pretty bad for the guy.
~Jordan Baker, Chester, and Catherine were pretty much background ppl but they don't seem to worry too much about all the affairs. Maybe that was common in the 20's. IDK. Jordan seems to like the scandal and, according to Daisy, is going to marry Nick whether she likes him or not.
~I really wouldn't want to hang with any of these people, but if I had to, I would choose Nick, because he's a good guy, just not very assertive.
So far in the Great Gatsby there are many different characters with alot of different sides. The main character I think Nick..? He seems kind of in a mess. He is thrown into this scandal I don't know if he realizes it or not he is. I think he might be in a place where he has no idea what to do or think. Meanwhile Miss.Baker lets him in on Tom's secret life.(the other woman) Tom wants Nick to like him so he lets him into this life. Tom seems to hold alot of stature in people's eyes; yet he is the type to cheat on his beautiful wife Daisy. She acts clueless even though I think she does know the truth. Myrtle the other woman is very arrogant and walks around like she's the it girl, but she is married too and is in a lower class. Nick gets mixed in all this and I think he is just confused honestly on whose side to chose or not to chose. To be honest I don't think I would be friends with any of these people because they don't seem very loyal or honest to one another. And honesty is very important. Without it how can you really trust someone? So far though Tom is the only character who really bugs me because he is a big fat lier and is very arrogant. He seems to look down on others and does't care who he hurts.
Well as I began the "Great Gatsby" at first I was kind of confused. In particular about where the story began but as I went along things kind of began to make some sense. The first character pretty much introduced was "Nick." Nick seems like an okay guy. On the other hand though he needs to follow what he thinks instead of letting others pull him along on their ride. One particular incident he is pulled into is with Tom and Daisy. The scandal he goes along with so far is when he is introduced to Tom's woman. What happens from there says it all. Personally I think this whole scandal is wrong. A person should never cheat on their spouse. So far I really dislike this "pig" of a character Tom. I think he is very selfish, arrogant, and inconsiderate. His wife Daisy, needs to stick up for herself and get out of the situation. I believe that she is probably scared in a way and does not know where to begin. Another person in this mess/ scandal is Miss. Baker. Miss. Baker seems kind of like a disceitful, coniving character. I mean she told Nick what was going on between Tom and Daisy. Who else has she told? On the other side of things she might have just been trying to help Daisy find someone to help her. That is just a positive alternative. The characters have not really given me a good impression so far. Everyone just kind of seems like a mess. For me right now looking at the whole agenda I wouldn't really want to hang out with any of them. Maybe one possible character would be Daisy. She seems like a upbeat, nice person. Two characters that really bother me are Tom and Myrtle. These two individuals just have lieing and cheating written all over them.
ok i would have to say that Tom is driving me up the wall!! he is soo rude and arrongant and selfish!! he seems to have the ideal life..beautiful wife, nice home... but NO! he doesn't stop there! he wants more! and the fact that he thinks he is all that and whites are soooo much better than blacks!! AHHH!!! he is sooo dumb!!
....ne way... i think that if i could hang out with ne one it would be nick.
...nick comes off as calm and seems like a pretty nice guy. although he seems to get drug(idk if that is correct grammer) around alot by tom.
..Daisy kinda acts like she wants ppl to serve her and wants some attention cuz tom oblivisly doesn't give her ne. I feel like Daisy has the need to belong, so she just plays the part.
...Jordan seems kinda rude and stuck up. She thinks she is all that jus bc she is a good golfer(even tho golf isn't really a sport.haha jk)
...Myrtle is poor but she acts stuck up and she seems kinda annoying to me.
...Mr. Wilson, poor thing, doesn't really know whats going on and he is jus kinda lifeless and dumb. He is just anohter face in the crowd.
... as for the other characters like catherine and mcKees, i didn't no if they were important characters or not.. i didn't really get the mcKees, they were kinda confusing, so wateve.ha
im confused!!
i like nick he seems like a goodish guy that could be really fun to hang out with (sorry if this is confusing i read ahead a little..)but he kinda seems lost i dont really think he knows what hes gotten himself into.
i dont really like jordan (mrs. baker) shes a liar and that just bugs me. she reminds me of those people that think they can have WHATEVER they want. shes a manipulative person and it would be best if nick stayed away from her. she just really bothers me....
tom is a typical guy.....i really really dislike him. he has everything in the whole world and hes throwing it away for some loud mouth big girl. i dont get it. that and it doesnt really seem like he cares that much for myrtle anyway cause he hit her ( what a meanie!!)that and he made up a lie that his wife is catholic?? where did that come from?!?! if he really "hated" daisy why would he make up a lie to stay with her...maybe its because of the kid. hmmm...
i think daisy knows about the affair she just is stuck between a rock and a hard place. i kinda feel sorry for her because her fam has money but shes so use to that lifestyle that she cant just leave him.also she could still love him and that just makes things even more complicated!! oh and by the way did anyone notice how she kind of freaked out when jordan mentioned gatsby? whats that all about
myrtle is loud and has to be the center of attention the kind of person that i usually dont like. but i cant help but feel kinda sorry for her because tom hit her and i dont think that was the first time hes done that. i think shes a gold digger cause she isnt getting those things from her husband
i know stuff about gatsby but thats in the next chaper so il just say that he seems distant....
sorry that was really long..........
oh and this is megan
okay so ive decided that i dont like any of the characters! they are all very stupid in their own special way. first of all tom is a typical male. he wants everything that he doesnt have including someone else's wife. if he is not in love with daisy, they should get a divorce!! and he shouldnt lie about her being catholic and that is the reason they cant get divorced! that is a bunch of crap. daisy wants everything to be about her. it really bothers me that she is so pesimistic! especially when she was like, i hope my daughter is a beautiful fool. what the heck is that about!? her little friend ms. baker is also very much about herself. she hardly even acknowledged nick when he got there and then he kept trying to make conversation with her and she was just an "abigail"!!! tom's mistress is i dont even know! she tries to act all rich and what not but she is just a poor woman. and the fact that she has tom come to her house and talk to her husband, what is she thinking!? they are so open about their affair which is really stupid. arent affairs supposed to be secretive? um... who elso, oh catherine, Mrs. wilson's sister right? um she is just kind of there. i guess i like her a little more than ms. baker since she actually talks to nick! and as for nick! he is just a tag along and doesnt really think for himself. all of the characters are really bothering me at this point in time! i would not hang out with any of these people!! and they are all driving my crazy!!
**sorry it is all one gigantic paragraph, i sort of got on a roll and forgot about paragraphing!
I have no idea how everyone wrote so much. I thought I comprehended the book pretty well but obviously not after looking at everyone else’s.
I guess I will start with Nick. I really don’t know what to say about him after two chapters. I guess he is an ok guy and I don’t mind him for walking out on the family business. I would too if I didn’t like the job my family did. He seems like an average Yale graduate to me. Tom on the other hand sounds pretty stupid and kind of a jerk. He is one of those stereotypical altheletic people who everyone thinks they have no brains only brawn. I agree. I also don’t like the fact that he cheats on his wife. If he loved her enough to marry her then he should respect her enough to not cheat. Miss. Baker I think will be one of those people who will wait around for someone to save them instead of doing it herself. Daisy I think respects Tom as much he does her and enjoys having money so she doesn’t have to do much. Mrs. Wilson is just a male version of Tom making them perfect for each other. I also don’t like the fact that there both into the whole party and get drunk thing. I kind of respect Nick for only being drunk twice but then again that’s still two times too many. Oh I forgot Mrs. Wilson is a snob for example when Mrs. McKee compliments her dress she says she thinks it’s an ugly and doesn’t say think you. Mrs. McKee I think should stop hanging out with Mrs. Wilson and get some friends that respect her more. Pretty much all the New York girls seem like the type to slowly waste there lives one afternoon gossiping about crap. Lastly Mr. Gatsby I really can’t say much right now. He just seems to be a creepy hermit who doesn’t talk to anyone. Sounds like me.
Well that looks like a good size journal considering I figured I would write two sentences.
I AM NEVER READING ANOTHER BOOK BY FITZGERALD EVER AGAIN UNLESS I HAVE TO!!!!!
Anyway...Nick is an ok guy. He does seem to be pushed around though...
Tom. I agree with Eric...He does seem pretty stupid and a big jerk.
"He is one of those stereotypical altheletic people who everyone thinks they have no brains only brawn. I agree. I also don’t like the fact that he cheats on his wife. If he loved her enough to marry her then he should respect her enough to not cheat."
I do think that he shouldn't have married Daisy if he was going to cheat on her...the same goes for Myrtle and Mr. Wilson.
Daisy, seems to me, a little out there...I'm not sure if it's just that I didn't get what she was saying, or if I'm right.
Mr. and Mrs. McKee seem to be ok, but they haven't done a whole lot yet.
I feel bad for poor Mr. Wilson. He might not know that his wife is cheating on him, yet he still treats her well. Myrtle on the other hand is a needy "Abby"!!! Her and Tom really bug me!!!!
Mr. Gatsby so far is a mysterious man who has parties...
Ms. Baker is...ummm gossipy and that's all I have on her.
Catherine is also gossipy...
I guess that I would want to get to know some of the characters before I would hang out with any of them.
ok... so honestly so far this book isnt 2 bad... at first it was like, whoa.. **yawn** abd then it didnt really change that much but i just made myself think its exciting. soo.. yeah i kinda think i'll like it. k
Daisy-kinda annoyed, she needs to stop letting her husband push her around and get a life of her own. I know its the 20's or whenever but she needs to get out of thast house.
tom(notice no capitals because i find him stupid and unsuperior)-what a wob!!!!(ask me later)who does he frickin think he is! Hes rude and push and big headed and a jerk and a....a...grr!!! i hate people sometimes... he should die right away. that would be nice :D He is over powering and needs to goet off of his high horse and needs to get off of... well i dunno if thats appropriate... and he frickin broke her nose!!!! holy crap( yes im writing this as i read so i dont miss anything)
Nick- He's cool enough, he shouldnt let tom(ha) boss him around and just leave the family alone, so he's a little shy i'm getting, and he doesn't drink to much, thats cool, uh, hes kinda a dull fellow but i like him.
Myrtle- yuck, yuck, stupid, spoiled, selfish, conceited, cheater cheater pumpkin eater, crazy, man she is a grrrr. he isnt fit to lick my shoe, nah nah nah blah blah blah, what is it with these people, so high and mighty!!
Catherine- Creepy sounding... yeah ugly, snobby
Miss Baker- snobby, stuck up and a gossip
Milk Boy- very considerate of the dog... good little thing
Butler- Whats wrong with his nose?
Mr. Wilson- Blind
Dog- not enough info... Tom shouldnt call him names tho! j/k im not that stupid poor poor miserable thing
Mr. McKee- slightly slobby, an artist like me! but a different kind....
Mrs. McKee- suck up,
HOLY CRAP WHAT HAPPENED AT THE VERY END???? CONFUSION PLEASE SOMEONE EXPLAIN!!!!!
coultlFirst off why do people write so much. Gatsby is rich and has a nice house and seems to keep to himself. Daisy, second cousin, nice, hiding something. Tom, big, stupid, meat head. Miss Baker, out of it kinda crazy. nick, voice of reason, is there but doesn't fit in completly.I bet no one put Butler down, no emotion, he is just there. Chapter one.
Doctor T.j. Eckleburg, Eyes. Wilson, owns the car repair. Tom girl, married. Mr. Mckee, in the artistic game. Mrs. Eberhardt, likes feet. Myrtle. Cathlerine, related to Mrs. Wilson.
o my bad forgot the last to questions. hang out with Gatsby. he seems to be calmer. Mrs. Wilson, she just confussed me.
I'll answer them in random order, i don't think i like any of them, but probably nick the most maybe bc we're seeing the story from his view. everyone else just seems to fit under either fake, obnoxious, scary/secluded in own world, gossipy, or cheating on someone. Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Mckee drive me crazy the most, w with her oh this is just some rag i put on even though its very pretty and mck with her yappy comments to her husband and others.
~impressions~
``Nick: pretty passive-sorta, and i feel like he's trying not to get involved in the mess but ends up in it anyway. I like some of his thinkings, like not getting married for a rumor and some of the realizations he came to.
(here i accidently pushed the escape key and it deleted all my comments, luckily, there was undo)
``Daisy: very talkative, kinda cynical, fake at dinner table with her husband. a little caught up in her own life, she kept talking to nick about her her her. I also feel bad for her, knowing (i assume) her husband is cheating on her but don't know what to do/how to deal with it. I didn't catch the i hurt myself then blame husband til i saw adam's post. and omg you read early just to do the post?
``Tom: i don't like him very much, he doesn't care about anyone else but himself..and i'd like to ask the guys, what's the big deal with his lover mentioning his wife? i mean he doesn't like her anyway, is it he thinks they should not think about her while they're together?..also i think he's blunt in a very rude way (so am I but not as rude) and he doesn't think anything of others at all
``Jordan Baker: i liked her until she shh-ed nick, then i fit her into the gossipy category..but idk if she wants to hear bc daisy is her friend or just to hear, oh yea so pretty much everyone knows about hte affair it seems, but then tom still tries to keep it down low, what's the point?
``Mrs.Wilson: i dislike her, stated earlier, she's the cheating obnoxious jerk kind. her apartment is like stuffed with crap and how does she afford the servants and cooks? and the dog, seems kinda fake. and she's braggy too.
``Mr.W: pretty dumb, i mean his wife is cheating on him and he befriends(sorta) his rival. i think hanging out w/ him might be ok.
``the Dr: we dont'really get much of him..when he said doesnt her husband obj (i think he said it) i liked that comment, so i kinda like him too...
~interrupt here to say random thought: they are all cheating on daisy and wilson by not telling them or encouraging htem to end this mess~
``Mrs.Mckee: gossipy and not caring for others. asks wilson about something and then just move on to another subj. and kinda tells her husband how to take pics even tho he's the photographer.
``mr.mck: i liked him for not listening and shh-ing his wife..and how he just stays out of the mess..but the pic on hte wall nick discibed made me question his skills..hed be okay to hang out i guess
``catherine: ~interrupt to comment on nick after reading katelyn's post, and remembering adam's post,(i AM add!) about hte whole white race hting, yea hitler-ish, and reminded me of the hate groups against obama, (in funny deep voice) minorities taking over!~
back to catherine, she's kinda gossipy too, seems like a know-it-all, another one of those who shoved knowledge at nick..but i guess we'd have to know about hte situation somehow..
``anyone else i forgot: i'm sorry
~~stop here~~ rest is not about my answers to the prompt..and holy crap i wrote too much, good thing no one else commented~~~(added at the very end)and pushed esc/undo again~~~
~after continuing w/ katelyn's post: oh so that's why tom and myrtle disaapeared...i ?'ed that..i feel dumb also and our lit circle book has too much sexual detail in EVERY part, and stupid ppl asking katelyn, and yes i agree with the being able to write a book, sorry if i've totally giving a summary and helping other ppl out..
chebears comment made me laugh, and i guess sticking this reading to the bottom of my list is fun, i get to read ev1 else's comments``ahh 11:42, still too many comments to read
i like the honesty point and the term pig (speel/spelled after 3 attempts)
from squirt: ohhhh, tom made up the catholic thing...is his wife rich or what? or just pretty to show off at events, and @ squirt, daisy+gatsby=affair, from the back of the book
by the time i got to nikki's comment, i realized that i've been picturing and hearing these ppl say their comments scary..and this is wayyy more htan the 5 min i told my dad i would take, and yea the fool part? just cuz she dk what's going on ds mean i won't hurt her...adn i'm enjoying the term abigail..(I came up with it!!, that reminded me of thel it circle book tooo when the lady claims credit for her husbands success, sorry totally unrelated)
@eric: you wrote alot too...min'es prbably overly gigantic, mrs s if you read to here then wow, sorry/thank you/get a life, jk
and eric's spelling is weird..
@dan: CALM DOWN! TO THE HOSPITAL!!and your quoting eric is wrong, haah sorry
hopes comment: die, yes i agree, and i like how you mentioned everyone, butler, milk boy and dog haha
ok i'm done now..goin back to add a break so you won't have to read too much
@wonderdog: i like hte feet comment
I really enjoyed the insightful rants of Nick in the beginning of the book. It helped me understand the reasons behind the views of his peers. I don't see the naivety in him as everyone else does. I think he is truly amused by the people he meets. The only reason he sees things so objectively is because of the way he was raised.
Anyways...Tom represents the arrogant, self-important truly egotisical people of the world. He displays every aspect of digusting human behavior in his acts. He should take himself out and decrease the surplus population instead of being so concerned with his mistresse's "surplus flesh."
People like him make me cringe.
I think Daisy is the truly naive person in the story. She seems to exhibit the typical symptons of PHS (Paris Hilton syndrome). Young, rich, ignorant and out of touch with reality. Only a person as shallow and naive as her could be capable of marrying a person like Tom. The only thing I found vaguely interesting about her was her views on the oppresion of women. That discussion about her daughter made me think twice about her. But besides that, I would avoid her like the plague.
Oh who else...The Mckee's seem like interesting people. I think their just caught in the crazy lifestyle of the 20's, and I don't necessarilly see them as bad people. So I don't really want to form an opinion about them yet. Then again its also likely that I missed something in the reading.
I think Mrs. Wilson is genuinely unhappy with her life. She feels the need to cheat with a good looking rich man to counter-act her dull existence. She was even willing to bash her former husband to gain the acceptance of these so called "sophisticated" people. I understand that the 20's were crazy but I don't think she would be enjoyable in any era.
And I'm pretty sure the other characters are added in to throw in random info. But I can't see any of them becoming important characters.
I think Nick would be the only person I could enjoy being around. He has a unique perspective and I think he would be fun to chat with. But Im also hoping Gatby will be the exception to the stereotypical rich snob. If not, this book is gonna make me want to punch a baby (figuratively).
Alright.. so..
My impressions are that these people are all very different (kind of).
Nick- More seserved and lets everyone take control.
Tom- Butt face, rude, racist, stupid, mean, thanks he's the..sh.. shark that rules the sea? sure.
Myrtle- Thinks she should be spoiled? However, she doesn't have much money.
Daisy- Once again, spoiled, or thinks she should be. A little bit of a push over if that applies. Pretty talkative.
Mr. Wilson- Well, kind of dumb. Is he old? Cause that would change my view on him completely. I love old people.
Mrs. Wilson- Cheater. Witch.
Mr. and Mrs. Mckee- Kind of opposites.
Cat- Like most girls, a little on the gossipy side.
Jordan- ? eh..
I most definately wouldn't hang out with butt face rude Tom. Maybe I'd chill with Nick because he seems more laid back. However, I don't agree with all of his decisions. Sorry for the time in which this was typed. This story so far=blahhhhhhhhh. :)
Under Nick.. the word seserved should be reserved.
OK, so I'm pretty sure I played with that ridiculous walking frog for about a half hour...anyway...I absolutely love Nick! He is so funny! If I could, I would definately hang out with Nick. I pity Daisy. She seems to be simple and sweet. I don't think I would like to hang out with her, because her constant chatter aggravated me in the book, but my heart still goes out to her. I hope that she finds someone that loves her as much as she loves everyone else. I hope that it is obvious that I hate Tom! He is so uncivilized and soo sexist! What a dumb...I'm sorry, my filter just kicked in...You know who also drives me crazy?! Mrs. Wilson! She is so awful to her husband - they are both awful to their spouses! No one deserves to be treated badly in a marriage. I'm trying to think of other characters to comment on...Ah, Mr. and Mrs. McKee...well aside from talentless, classless people, I suppose I have nothing to say about them. I did find it funny that the photograph that Mr. McKee took of Mrs. Wilson's mother resembled a hen. This couple reminds me of the McKiscos in Tender Is the Night. Jordan Baker was also an interesting character. I'm trying to decide if she is a possible love interest for Nick...I also enjoyed Catherine's character. This is probobly because she is such a gossip. I would hang out with her if she was really that easy to get information out of. Finally, Mr. Gatsby. From what I've read, he seems to be a lonely man. I, of course, accidentally read the back of the book, so I know that he loves Daisy. I hope that he is able to win her affections and give her the love that she deserves. Overall, I absolutely love this book! It is so colorful...and so full of characters that are easy to relate to. :)
So...to tell you the truth I am not really sure what went down i the first two chapters. Hopefully I will have time to re-read them soon. From what I do understand, I hate Tom because he is the perfect sterio type of the American man. Daisy seems niceish and I like her. At this point , I'm not really sure what part Catherine plays in the plot but I think that she seems pretty straight forward. I think that she is probably the character I would most like to hang out with at this point but that could change. Nick is my favorite character though because he is so naive and does not see the world in the way it actually is.
Ok, so overall I agree with what everyone else is saying. This is really confusing but i think i kinda get the characters.
Nick seems like a good guy, but he lets everyone walk all over him. He needs to grow a backbone.
Daisy is really self-centered and wants to be worshiped. She reminds of some of the girls at our school. You know the pretty popular ones who talk about you behind their backs.
Tom is a real jack-butt and I really don’t like him. He’s the kind of guy that during horror films, you enjoy watching him suffer and die. He has pretty wife and than he goes and has a stupid affair.
Myrtle is a wannabe who thinks as herself as a goddess. That girl needs a reality check.
I’m not quite sure what’s going on with Mr. Wilson. Let’s just say that he is not the sharpest crayon in the crayon box.
Everyone else like Jordan, Catherine, Chester and the Mckees don’t really seem like main characters to me. But they do seem kinda odd. For one thing they like random parties with lots of booze and they don’t really care about people having affairs.
If I had to choose someone to hang out with, I would probably hang out with either Nick, because he is a good guy, or Mr. Wilson, because then it would make me look smarter. Tom pretty much drives me crazy and Daisy and Myrtle annoy me.
I agree with Hope. When I read the first couple of pages, it was kind of boring because it was just developing, but then after a while it wasn't terrible..i guess. Okay, people aren't probably going to like this too much, but Nick is a baby. If he's not going to stand up for anything, then of course he should be trampled on. Everyone has an opinion on something, and if he's not going to share it, then his opinion is worthless. I think we all agree that Tom is really really rude though. We're only two chapters in, and he's already shown how selfish he can be. And I don't like the whole cheating situation. I mean, it's great for the book, hilarious, but not in real life.. unfortunately. Daisy is one of those people that you hear about on T.V. being brutally murdered when their husbands finally snap. I'm excited to see what happens. :D
Everyone else is just kind of "there" I guess right now? We don't really know much about Mr. Gatsby, Miss Baker talks a lot, there's always someone like that, and Mr. and Mrs. McKee have really only been introduced.
This is kind of off, but I would actually probably hang out with Tom. Even though he's extremely egotistical, he at least knows what he wants. He also seems like he has a lot of fun, as opposed to Nick, who wouldn't even be able to pick a movie.
I really don't like the way Fitzgerald writes. it is kind of confusing to follow, and he uses big words to describe irrelevant things. it seems like he is trying to impress the reader. here are my impressions of the main characters so far.
Nick- seems okay. he is nice enough, but he lets other people push him around. he would be okay to hang out with for a while, but i think i would get sick of him eventually.
Tom- stupid jerk who thinks he is always right. he is really demanding and has to have everything his way. he cheats on his wife and abusive and a liar. i hate him as of right now.
Daisy- she seems like a ditsy airhead. she lets other people control her and she wants to be the center of attention. she seems like the type of person i could not stand to be around.
The McKees- they are kind of weird. why would you tell someone your husband photographed you 127 (?) times before you were married? it is random and irrelevant. they really haven't contributed to the plot as of now, so i don't know what to think of them.
Mrs. Baker- don't really get her yet either, but the way she acted when we first met her bothered me. i don't really know why.
Mr. Gatsby- he seems like an interesting character. i think he will be the one i would get along with out of all the characters. he hasn't really done anything yet, so i don't really know his character. he seems pretty cool though.
Okay...I think I understand what's going on so far...for the most part. Obviously, Nick is our main character, and he seems like a pretty good guy. However, although he is well-educated, he is more of a passive character, as opposed to Tom, who is much more aggressive. Tom is also a very proud, arrogant person. He feels that whites are superior to everyone else, and like others, is becoming paranoid about other races gaining more rights and/or power. Daisy, to me, is a watered-down, female version of her hubby, Tom. She is probably strongly influenced by Tom because he is so assertive. Miss Baker is somewhat similar to Nick, in that they're both fairly quiet and seem like nice enough people. So they should probably hook up. Besides the other background ppl, the McKee's are basically the typical '20s couple. And that's all I have time for, so good-bye.

Ok so most of the people so far are either rich, they cheat on their spouse or just weird. Tom seems to be a bit controlling and hes not very faithfull to his wife. He drags Nick all around and doesnt even really give him a chance to say anything. Then theres this woman who tom likes whats up with that. she seems to be a spoiled u know what and tom gives her whatever she wants. And then daisy? whats up with her? I kind of feel sorry for mr. wilson because hes kind of dumb and his wife seems to control him and he doesnt even know whats goin on between his wife and tom. Personally i would like to hang out with nick he seems to be a down to earth guy(especially compared to everyone else) and hes the only one that isnt snobbish or wacked out. the person that would drive me crazy would be the Baker women because she is extremely snobbish and very gossipy which drives me nuts. GILLY
The main character I guess is Nick. haha :) But anyway, he seems like a nice guy, but a dumb one..(typical guy)..took from Nikki, but I agree. :) He lets everyone run his life anddd I would never let anyone do that for me, so I don't like him.
Welllll, Daisy, I don't like either, she's one of those people who wants everyone's attention and to give her everything she wants. She is kind of a gossipy type of girl, and she doesn't have any control over her life either.
Tom....I HATE WITH A FIREY PASSION. I dislike him.. He's one of those people who don't realize what they have and want bigger and better things. Even though the bigger and better thing that he wants is a loud mouth fatty. AND he hits girls. What a douche bag. (sorry for the language but that's the only word that came to mind :))
Myrtle is one of those people who likes to take advantage of other people. Even though she's poor as hell, she still goes out and expects to receive expensive things. Soooo I don't like her either.
Mrs. Wilson is a dumb person. She seems kind of rude to me and I don't like dumb rude people, so I probably wouldn't like to hang out around her.
I don't really know what I think of everyone else..the McKeen's seem nice and that's all I can think of..and I think that the rest are pretty much backround characters.
Well, Nick seems to be the most respectable and intelligent person of the bunch, so right off the bat, I can say that I would probably like him the most out of them all. Daisy seems to have a good personality, so she is 2nd best. Tom is a back-stabbing traitor, so I would probably dislike him. Gatsby seems like an alright guy, even though he may keep mostly to himself.
