Okay, now that I've got that out of my system, I'm ready for real.

After everything I think I know about Gatsby.................

(He got his money from his parents, who lived in San Francisco and are now dead, attended Oxsford and has a picture to prove it, had a super thing with Daisy before she married Tom, joined the army and Daisy married while he was away, traveled/lived all around Europe collecting jewels, hunting, painting, etc., he served in the war on the American side, was depressed and wanted to die but couldn't and instead he won a medal for valour because none of his suicidal war tactics worked, came home still super rich and alone, bought a mansion in West Egg across the river/bay/thing from Daisy's house, throws multiple parties in the hope that Daisy will show up(she hasn't yet), and is now planning to steal Daisy away from Tom with Nick's help. You're welcome for the synopsis.)

....I feel a little bad for him. He seems like a pretty nice guy, with the exception of some suicidal tendencies and social awkwardness, but that's what makes him human. He's not perfect, but he follows his heart. Sure that can and probably will get him in trouble, but Tom is following something a little farther south than his heart, so he probably won't even notice that Daisy may/may not get with Gatsby. Personally, I'm rooting for Gatsby because Tom's a jerk and Daisy really likes Gatsby(I think she wanted to leave Tom at their wedding for him, yes?).

Also, these people should NOT be allowed to drive cars! And Mr. Wolfsheim has a funny accent + is also like a nation-wide criminal, and seems "interested" in Gatsby, if you know what I mean....

Finally, what the heck is "Highballs"(pg 70)? Is it a drink or some sort of natural male enhancement? Yes that's inappropriate, but I'm not going to be here for the rest of the week, so I thought I'd leave you with something funny/inappropriate/random/spastic....in other words, ME!

After everything I think I know about Gatsby...
I feel that he has too much money. He inherited from his dead parents, and it seems like to me doesn't really know what to do with it...(has big party's and doesn't even go to them or well I guess doesn't interact with the people he invited) I also kind of feel bad for him too..I'm sure that it would be hard to have no one in your family and no one to love. And Daisy..I think that since they used to like each other, then they should just get together, because Tom cheats on Daisy all the time! Why not get back at Tom and follow your heart along with it!? Idk..that's just how I would handle it haha.
Is this why you asked what you would do for love? Because it seems like Gatsby is doing everything he can to get closer to Daisy.

OKAY...After all I think I know about Gatsby...I find it very hard to believe him and I feel I don't really know him at all. I guess like Nick I think it is all a bit too far-fetched. Yes Gatsby produces a medal and picture as proof...but is it really proof enough to believe his whole story? And then theres the whole Daisy thing. That is about the only part of Gatsby's story that I have almost no trouble believing. One thing though...is it okay to call Gatsby a STALKER?!? After all he moved into his home only to be near Daisy's home (if this is really true). I dont know if I like the idea of Gatsby stealing her from Tom either. Yes Tom is a jerk and I absolutely hate his guts with everything inside of me...but I also think that cheating is inappropriate, uncalled for, and unneccesary. I hate that part of society in the 1920s that finds it more exceptable to cheat than to get a divorce. In all reality, I dont approve of either of these choices but for me, divorce is the lesser evil. At this point, Im not even really sure how I feel about Gatsby, and I think that he might be lieing about hsi past. But who can say at this point?
And why would anyone start a rumor that he killed a man who had found out that he was nephew to Von Hindenburg and second cousin to the devil. REALLY...second cousin to the devil! Who would say that?!?

wow Cherie has issues...of course, when does she not have any? I do agree with her that Tom should "think with his brains and not his juevoes." "^^"

Anyway...
After everything I think I know about Gatsby...

I feel bad for the guy. He had a great thing with Daisy then he had to go because of the war. Daisy, who should have waited longer, married Tom and is not as happy as she would be if she had Gatsby.

(I like this book SO X's 100 much more than my other!!! I mean you have no idea how much I want to buy a copy of "This Side of Paradise" and burn it while laughing at its smoldering remains!!! HAHAHA!!! yes Cherie I think I owe you for this...)

So now poor Gatsby is trying to get her back. The parties are not working very well...and now Nick knows all of this and will hopefully help, but he seems distracted righ now....(I'm getting tired of all of these guys getting what they want all of the time in my books...) Anyway, I feel that Gatsby is a very nice guy with a few social flaws, but who doesn't have some of those?

Cheire I thought about the skiing again...HA! The ball just kept going and getting bigger, and then it took out a field of corn....HAAHAHA!!!

*Ahem*

Wow Cherie, thanks for that little review! haha
After everything i think i know about Gatsby, i feel very sorry for the man. his true love was taken away from him while he was at war. he has a lot of money but nobody to spend it on so he just thorws these gigantoid parties in hopes that he will get daisy to attend one. once daisy is there he will try to win her back. how cute is that?! honestly, he deserves daisy and daisy deserves him. tom has his little side bar so daisy should be able to have hers. OR they could just get divorced and then get married to the people that they really love or want to be with or whatever is going on with tom and his mistress. anyway back to gatsby... i think that what he is doing is a very normal thing, he is lonely so he throws huge parties that he doesnt even really like. he wants to get the girl so he tries to woo her by getting her to come to one of his magnificent parties. completely normal if you ask me. he is a man who is in love and has money so he does what any man in that situation would do. i feel sorry for him

i absolutely HATE research papers and source cards!!! they may be the death of me!

Mrs. Svoboda, I need help with note cards too. I'll turn them in but I don't think some of them are right. Anyway.

After everything I know about Gatsby, I feel really bad for him. I didn't really get why Daisy didn't marry him (other than the fact that she now seems like an Abby with no brain power), but he loves her. It's so sweet. I guess it was completely normal to do that sort of thing (meet someone other than your spouse, etc) in the 20s, so I'm not going to judge. I thought it was hilarious that Jordan was a very large part of setting the whole thing up (probably told Gatsby about Tom and Myrtle's whole affair), and Nick going along with it. Gatsby is acting just like a love-crazed teenager. But he's not. Isn't he supposed to be a well-respeced businessman or something? And what's with the lunch meeting with the creepy guys?

After everything I think I know about Gatsby, I can see where he is coming from. He is kind of like me in the fact that he is unsocial. I don’t mind that he throws parties and doesn’t go around and talk to as many people as he can because if I were to throw a huge party I would do the same thing. However, he should start going around his own parties because it could help him in a couple ways. One, it may stop the rumors about him if he’s able to talk to his guests and tell his stories from the primary source. Secondly, he could have probably made more connections with different people who might have known Daisy so he wouldn’t have had to wait all those years waiting for Nick to show up.

Speaking of the whole Daisy thing, I feel bad for Gatsby like half of the class has already said. I agree with him trying to win Daisy back from Tom. In fact I think Daisy should kind of feel bad of what she did. She shouldn’t have gotten married until she knew Gatsby did in the war or he came back and she talked to him about her seeing other people. I don’t blame her for dating other people because the war lasted a long time but she could have held back on the marriage thing. Daisy should divorce Tom and get back with Gatsby. Even though it’s not the “right” thing to do they should do what they think is right because then they can lives together without worry. Tom will get over it. He could tell his story to a bunch of women and they will fill bad for him and he will be fine.

The final thing about Gatsby is him serving in the army. I believe he the picture and metal are proof enough and I am glad he fought for his country.

haha cherbear makes me happy with her nicknames...2.0 haha..so does jake's deadly eyes and busy life..anyway..oh btw why didn't you put up the ch 5 journal jeez, what if cherbear already read it and wanted to do it b4 all-state?

ok the REAL answer..after 3 seconds..1...2....3!:wow, pretty much what cherie said, except i think he went to "Oggsford" haha that guy made me laugh too. (and i attempted this prounounciation like 5 times)...how did we know that he was on the american side?? and haha the winning medal bc wanted to die was very funny too..and the tom following sth s of his heart from cherbear and the highballs comment ahahahahhah..

concerning mara's comments (i hope its mara) i wouldn't say that daisy shouldn't go with gatsby or jay, since no one else mentioned his first name, just because of the society thing..but bc its cheating is a good reason..to divorce is like yes go for it who cares about society anyway

now for my opinions... I think its weird for him to kinda just wait for daisy to come..i mean make some moves! some adv moves..but i also think its sweet that he bought a house just to see her and wants to just "run into" her ...i didn't really believe him at first and thought that maybe he hired the wierd guy..(idk how to spell weird..i think its weird..anyway) to make nick believe him or maybe that guy just does it..but then after jordan's talk i believe him, then after journal reading i kinda doubt him again..idk what i think..multipolar....i'm really looking forward to the gatsby and daisy "unexpected" encounterance? (or encountance? or the correct word) and they're reactions, such as shock, speechless, make fool of selves..and also IF nick actually helps him..oh yea and maybe nick battling self to help or not..he probly will or where wouldhte story go?

@nikki: OMG! we can't do lit circles! get back in order!!!

oh yea, tom is a !$@#^$@&@%$#, i mean cheating on your honeymoon and getting caught on the news?? how pathetic is that? i don't dislike him not as much anymore..i mean i dislike him more now..but not totally yet..bc daisy didnt' marry him for love or any attraction at all id think

and i'm glad my research stuff is turned in, hahaha, pt and laugh at the stressed kids..

gee eric. one. how did u get your name to show up cap? 2. IF you were to throw a huge party (wouldn't happen!) 3. you would NOT walk around...tell yourself to be more connected to ppl! 4. i disagree about the seeing other ppl and marrying tom, i think she just did to numb herselve and was sorta forced to marry

tonight on nightline: kid or killer, 8 yr old...and shark! anyway that's it for now, seeya next time on "the journal blog ish thing"..thing....thing....

mrs s you posted, are you still logged on the blog yet? if yes...guess what?? we already have our lit circle proj figured out!!! well sorta!!

after everything i kno about gatsby...

hes pretty much the guy that i thought he would be. hes not just some scary rich guy that throws humongo blow out parties hes human!

he seems a little shy and i think that its cute. shyness is really cute.i thought that gatsby might try to steal jordan from nick but he didnt and that kinda irritated me.(but thats because i dont like her)

it was cool how gastby was just like HEY COME RIDE IN MY FANCY CAR! and then when he got pulled over....(i think he made his money off of something a little more illegal than inheritance but thats just what i think)and didnt get in trouble stupid...to add to the illegal thing ok why is he hanging out with some guy who fixed the world series?? yea im pfetty sure theres some kind of god father stuff going on here i mean how can he get all of that booze for his parties????

the whole daisy gatsby thing is so good!!!! i really like that because daisy deserves someone better than that abby of a husband. you have to love that gatsby waited there for daisy :) oh that and when he was looking at the green light across the bay thats where daisy lives AWWWW!!!

so i kinda like gatsby and i think there is more to him then just inherited money.....

Anonymous said...

After everything i think i know about Gatsby...is that he has a lot of money that he inheriated from his dead parents from San Fransisco. he use to go to Oxford bc it was kinda a family tradition and he even has a picture to prove it. Gatsby was in love with Daisy when he went off to war, and then daisy married while he was away. he was a great general and has a won a medal!..even tho he wanted to die..but ne way he has moved to a mansion in west egg like a couple blocks away so that he can be closer to her. he throws tons of parties, in hope that she will come to one..i think that he is going to try to win her back from tom and hopes that Nick can be the guy to hook them back up!
i kinda feel bad for Gatsby bc the love of his life was taken by another man and he can't do that much about it. i think that Gatsby is still kind of a mystery character to me, jus cuz i feel like he is hiding something still, but i could be totally wrong!haha he is a nice guy with a lot of money but he doesn't no wat to do with it. and he is so lonely by himself in that big mansion and i really think that Daisy and Jay (thats Gatsby first name right?haha) should get together!! cuz they deserve each other! Daisy needs to get away from tom and gatsby needs to fill that whole in his heart where Daisy belongs!!:)

Anonymous said...

He surprised me I didn't think he would just flat out tell nick all about his past. He still is very mysterious. You don't know who his family was or anything that’s going on now in his life. I just don't know about Gatsby.

Anonymous said...

After everything I think I know about Gatsby...I realized that there is more to him. He has a past and he is very down to earth. He has feelings and is not in a mold as he may seem. At first I thought he seemed as if he was just a "party boy" or "life of the party." There is a reason for him doing all of this. It took me off gard when Daisy came into the picture. He was pretty broken up and did much traveling for five years? I think...well it just gives him a softer tone. Now I really don't know what to expect or think of him.

Anonymous said...

After reading this chapter it was kind of a sursprise. My first impression of Gatsby was misdirected. In the beginning I thought he was just a party boy but now I learned there is more. He has had reasons for the things he has done in his life. I believe Gatsby is an honest, sincere, and loving individual. Plus those rumors about him probably mostly are just rumors. He told Nick the truth about him because he knew rumors were flying. Plus he didn't want him to think he was a "nobody." So far from what I've learned I feel bad for Gatsby. Its really tragic about Daisy how she just married someone else but she never really got over him.

Oh...After everything I know about Gatsby...It's easier to have respect for him, or at least have sympathy for him. He's been through alot in his life, as he so eagerly demonstrated to Nick in the car. He's been all around the world and hasn't been able to find any meaning. It's funny how a man of such high standing is terrified to speak to the one person he truly wants in his life. He is a hopeless romantic to the highest degree.

The guy that rigged the world series was awesome, I like smart criminals. Hope he comes back later

Optimistic that this won't be typical romance novel...fingers crossed.

Nick and Jordan Baker? Lame...

Highball= Some type of alcohol+ ice+ a mixer (sprite, ginger ale etc.) My grandpa made me watch alot of Cary Grant movies when I was little haha.

After everything I think I know about Gasby...
I read and it was blah blah blah UNTIL Palmetto die by train then I was like COOooOL... and when Brewer...nose shot off I was like sWeeT I'm in to reading this.

So Gatsby has supa cool car and does not much to say to Nick, so he probably doesn't have much of a life to talk about, if he does then he just doesn't talk. Gasby be
aware of the rumors going on and told Nick about it.
I know now that that Oxford rumor is indeed tue cause he said he was an Oggsford man. He also apparently got all his munny from dead people sorta like that other rumor. No hint of killed a man yet...besides it being repeated..or unless it was in war... which he wanted to dye in wor or tried hard to... but the opposite happens and he gets the opposite and gets promoted and all.
Carries major metal
Carries oxford sourviener.

One thing that reveals more about him: he is careful about annoying Nick with....women (her...baker)
When he came to face with Tom, he runs away, it was said that he buys that mansion so...whats her face... Daisy is across bay. He just is afraid to meet her directly. This also kinda sorta explains the parties, I was thinking he wanted Daisy to come... before she said "half-suspect her to WT EFF.. nose started bleeding again.. as I'm writing another Gastby journal wtheck is this crap... a curse?
before she said "I think he half suspected her to" something somthng sth. So it's most likely the reason.

After everything I think I know about Gatsby. . .

Umm...don't exactly get the point of this one...that could be due in part to the fact that its around 1:30 a.m...but I guess I'll attempt to be comprehendible here...
I knew that there was something about Gatsby that set him apart from all the others. Idk entirely how I knew, but I think part of it is due to the way in which whoever wrote this book...oh yeah Fitzy...writes about him. God I'm beginning to sound like Adam...
But yeahh...
At first I was skeptical, like Nick, of all of the accomplishments that Gatsby named off, but then he proved us wrong, that wittle wascal.
Oh yeah he likes Daisy, too, doesn't he...
That surprised me too. A lot. It's always interesting/intriguing when you see a person as influential and popular as Gatsby possess weaknesses, especially when that weakness is women.
Considering the fact that I'm having a real hard time keeping my eyes open, I'm gonna have to stop there. Hate to disappoint. Sorry. I'm gonna go lay in my comfy bed. For only 5 hours. Wow this sucks. Should I go now? Nah, I'm having fun. I wonder if it's possible to stay awake in calc. Anybody know how? I don't. hah i have no clue what I just did. I bet Adam does. Did I make the letters big and bold? Who knows. I really hope everyone reads this blog tomorrow. Or today. I guess. Pretty sure you guys won't look at me the same. Oh well. SAKLDFJAj;lja;nvalkfj;oamval;ksjLJ;AFJLANVCASOFJO
Now that that's over with...I really need my beauty sleep. This time I'm actually going. For real. Don't believe me? Idiot.

I would have to say that even after we learn a lot about Jay Gatsby, we still never know his entire story. He is a very real character. I have to admit that having his wealth would be nice...:)
Despite all of the advantages that he has been given in life, he is such a sad character. My heart broke when I read about how he had bought the house across the bay so that he could always be near Daisy. I also felt sorry for him when he made a big deal about only wanting to meet Daisy again in Nick's house.
I did think it was odd that Nick didn't believe any of his story at the beginning of the chapter...It seems like Gatsby has become very good at hiding he real side...
I also noticed the excessive comments about Gatsby's smile...WHAT IS UP WITH HIS SMILE?! I'm pretty sure that it represents something, but I may be totally wrong...
After reading the book, I find that I like Gatsby. He is perfect for this tragedy. Does he die at the end of the book?? Nobody answer that...I just felt that it was necessary to ask...

After everything I think I know about Gatsby. . . I'm going to have to agree with Kaylyn on all or most of my opinion on him. Gatsby is rich and has nothing better to spend his money on but parties he doesn't even enjoy. I guess he might enjoy them if he has a fun time keeping his distance from them. I don't know if I believe ALL of the rumors being said about Gatsby. I don't think he killed a man, but I guess that is what we will find out..
However, I do believe some of the rumors, like the one about Gatsby attending Oxford.. Why else would he have a picture of himself playing whatever it was that he was playing at Oxford? Scavenger hunt picture maybe? Doubt it.

Any way, Like Kaylyn said once again, I also think that Daisy should suck it up and leave Tom for Gatsby. I mean I know that's harsh but her husband is a loony toon who needs to stop being a cheater, and since Gatsby is single.... why not?!?

After everything i know about gatsby i find him to be a man with a lot of money, freetime, but very lonely. He seems like an ok guy, but he needs to learn that being rich and having parties were everyone is invited inst everything. if he just invited people that he knew then maybe he could have friends that are actualy friends and then he might actually attend the party. After everything i think i know about Gatsby, i kind of feel sorry for him. he has no family left, but inherited a ton of money. unlike some people, i believe him about the war thing. there is just something about him that is very strange. he has a very hypnotic feel around him. if i were in nick's place, i would believe him. i don't know why. that made no sense. anyway, i think the whole Daisy thing is really cute. he obviously loves her enough to wait five years and throw massive parties so he could maybe get a glimpse of her. however, i think he should give up. if she doesn't want him after everything he did, she probably won't. he went to far trying to get love. ever since he met her he has been determined to win her affections. however, given Daisy's current standings with tom i can see how she might be pulled towards Gatsby. I'm going to stop before i contradict myself even more.

Anonymous said...

After everything I think I know about Gatsby, I keep thinking that he must have some deep dark secret that he is hiding, besides stalking Daisy. I also think that he has WAY too much money, and no real adequate explanation as to how he got it.
