Ok, definitely did not see that coming . . . . (and make sure you stay on topic--some of you have been getting a little off the novel. . . not to name any names. . . .)

I definitely did not see Myrtle getting ran over by Daisy. But I think that it is funny in a weird sick way. I also did not expect Daisy to tell Tom that she loves Gatsby. I figured that she would just run off with him. I did not expect gas to be only a dollar twenty (sorry that’s off topic). I cannot believe that Tom let Daisy go home with Gatsby in his car. I am very surprised that Daisy and Tom were talking after they got home. Finally I can not understand why Gatsby wanted to stay and watch till Daisy goes to sleep.
Ok, definitely did not see Gatsby coming out and saying that he loved Daisy and had for five years and that she never really loved Tom in front of everyone. I guess I always thought that Gatsby was kind of a private guy I didn’t think his approach to revealing his feelings for Daisy was really his style. Then of course there is the fact that Daisy said that she had loved them both and that she was planning on leaving Tom for Gatsby. If that wasn’t shocking enough there was the whole scene where Myrtle was murder by the car that fit the description of Gatsby’s and everyone thinking that Gatsby was the one that had done it but then you find out that is was really Daisy. (As much as I hate to say it this really proves that you sometimes shouldn’t let a women drive). So of course instead of letting Daisy take the blame for it Gatsby decides to sacrifice his innocence for her. Wow this was one chapter that certainly had quite a few unexpected curve balls.
wow... uh didnt expect tom catching on so quickly...didnt expect gatsby to let him drive his car...didnt expect mr. wilson to step up and be a man...didnt expect the confrontation between tom and gatsby...didnt expect daisy to side with gatsby so quickly, i mean she loves him but i figured she would have still had some ties to tom...didnt expect myrtle dying...and tom's sadness...and i think gatsby really cares about daisy because he stayed to make sure tom wouldnt act like...well tom.
i did not see gatsby firing all his people and ending all his parties. i thought he would hire more people to make himself seem richer and have more parties to make himself seem more famous. i was also surprised that daisy and gatsby could not hide their love for eachother in front of tom. daisy ruined the secret even more by asking gatsby to go 2 the city with her. i was not surprised at all that myrtle got hit by a car. i wonder what gatsby and daisy were trying to get to so fast that they kept going after hitting someone...they must really love eachother. i was surprised that now gatsby says he only went to oxford for 5 months, i knew he was lying. next he will say he went for 1 week, then he will prove me right by admitting that he didnt go 2 oxford. i am also surprised that gatsby is going so crazy. i didnt think he would be caught "slipping". i didnt expect these things to happen, but then again i didnt think we'd reelect an idiot into the white house. i also didnt expect that we would launch missles at somalia two days ago. asalaamwalaikum brothers and sisters.
I definitely didn't expect Gatsby to profess his love for Daisy so quickly. After he did I didn't expect Tom to let Daisy go home with Gatsby. I thought he would go mad and attack Gatsby. When Gatsby and Daisy left I thought they should have rode off into the sunset together or something. Instead Daisy hits Myrtle with the car. I figured that Gatsby would take the blame for the accident. He truly loves her and would do anything for her. Then he stays at Daisy’s house to make sure Tom doesn’t do anything rash. This, once again, proves that he still loves Daisy. -Tony
...Myrtle killed! By Daisy!!! Thats crazy! That was big shocker for me. Oh and why did Tom send Gatsby and Daisy together? They didn't even feel guilty when they ran over Myrtle. And then Tom went up to Wilson and actually comforted him! I was floored! Well, and prior to that, gatsby was a bit forward when he told Tom that Daisy had never loved him. This was just an overall shocking chapter and it was too much for me to handle in my emotionally unstable state !!! ok calming down now. Happy place.
Well, I did not see it the whole Daisy hitting Myrtyle with the car and him dying thing! did not see Gatsby ending all his parties, well sort of did because he "got the girl" and the reason he threw the parties was in hope of Daisy showing up. did not see Daisy just going along with everything in front of Tom. I figured she would like just run off with Gatsby and not really tell Tom where she went and try to just get him out of her life for good.
I did not see the whole myrtle becoming a bloody mess all over the wrong deal coming. I did enjoy the irony though. Myrtle getting knocked off by the woman who's husband she is sleeping with... NICE! I thought that it was strange that Daisy swerved to hit her since she could not have recognized her. Also, i did not see the whole Tom accepting his loss to Gatsby. Very odd...
"Oh Bother" said Pooh as he chambered another round.
Mixed feelings is when that one annoying person in english class drives your new mercades off of a cliff
I really didn't expect Myrtle of all people to be the first one to die. She wasn't really a huge character besides the first party. She's kind of been an afterthought since then. She's been somewhat mentioned in conversations about Tom but really thats all the more she's mentioned anymore. I really didn't expect her becoming the first person to go for that sole reason.
I didn't expect Mrytle to be ran over by a car, especially one driven by Daisy. Though I will admit, it was kinda funny in a weird way. Tom's mistress gets killed by his wife...I also didn't expect Gatsby and Tom's argument to happen in a hotel-where everyone can hear(personally i think that was a little dumb b/c the whole town could have known Daisy was cheating on Tom by 8 o'clock that night if someone had heard). I expected them to argue in Gatsby's house or Tom's house. off topic-I think it would have been really horrible not live in places with air-conditioning. Its bad enough when it's hot inside and you do have air-conditioning, let alone it being hot inside and out with nothing to keep you cool. the horror.
I was suprised when Gatsby and Daisy kissed with Tom just in another room, didn't anyone in that time try to keep things secret?!
I was surprised by how little Daisy seemed to pay attention/care about her daughter. It just seems weird to me that children were pretty much raised by their nannies.
I was suprised that Daisy kept on flirting with Gatsby in front of Tom. Did she not expect him to notice, or did she just not care?
I was surprised Gatsby let Tom drive his car, if I were in Gatsby's position I would never let the spouse of the person I was having an affair with drive my car(wow that was a confusing sentence).
I was surprised Tom allowed Gatsby to drive all alone with Daisy after he suspected something weird.
I was surprised when Tom was talking to Mr. Wilson like he owned Gatsby's car and wanted to sell it to him. Jerk.
I agree with whoever said that I was surprised gas only cost him $1.20. lol
I was surprised that Wilson was dumb enough not to figure out that Tom is the man who Myrtle is having an affair with.
I was surprised by the whole argument between Tom and Gatsby.
I was surprised that Tom made Daisy ride home with Gatsby. Wierdo.
Most of all, I was surprised by Myrtle's death. I was surprised by how Fitzgerald was almost graphic in his discription. I was uber-surprised that Daisy was driving the car and that Gatsby was going to take the fall for her.
Daisy totally smokes Myrtle... What the heck? I think that Fitzgerald is a little morbid... I was really surprised that G just ups and tells Tom that Daisy is going to leave him and that she had loved G the whole time. Why would you say that... other then to "stick it to the man." I think that if both Daisy and G really wanted to run away and be together that neither of them would have said anything. By the end of the novel I agree with Tom about Daisy getting foolish ideas. At first I was mad that he said that because I thought he was making a general statement about women but nope that definatly fits Daisy and her personality....
I didn't expect to enjoy the random qoutes from Matt but that last one was pretty intense... Mat please do not drive off a cliff.. I like the car. :D JK JK
I did not expect alot of things to happen. First, the type of person that Tom is, he seems like he would be a little thick-skulled, so I didn't think that he would really catch on that Daisy was being "unfaithful" if that's what you want to call it. Also, I didn't see Gatsby being as blunt about everything as he was in the hotel. He flat out says he has loved Daisy for a long time and almost forces Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him. I didn't think he was the controlling type of guy that he seemed to be right then. I didn't expect Daisy to kill Myrtle, though be it on accident, I personally found it quite amusing. Also, I didn't see the whole Gatsby being a stalker thing coming. Weird...

Basically, I was surprised. (^_^)
Oh and yes I realize I could've made my post a lot shorter by putting it all into just one or two paragraphs, but what fun would that be?!
